Sony sets dedicated Final Fantasy VII Rebirth State of Play for February 6
If you wanted to learn more about Final Fantasy VII Rebirth from Sony's most recent State of Play and came away feeling left out, don't worry. Sony confirmed that Square Enix's next big RPG release will get its own dedicated State of Play Showcase in a few days. The broadcast is set to take place on February 6, 2024, just a few weeks before the game's February 29, 2024 release date.
Sony wasn't specific about what aspects of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will be covered in the State of Play broadcast, or how long it would run for. However, the announcement delivered by Sony Interactive Entertainment's Shawne Benson mentioned that Square Enix would debut new gameplay details and "exciting news."
This isn't the first time Sony has stepped up to deliver a bespoke promotion for a major title, particularly one that is exclusive to PlayStation platforms. In April 2023, Sony broadcast the "State of Play 4K" event for Final Fantasy XVI, which launched on PS5 in June 2023. That broadcast ran for about 25 minutes and featured substantial looks at the game's Eikon boss battles, sidequests, and a deeper dive into its character action-derived combat system. Both Final Fantasy XVI and FFVII Rebirth are PS5 exclusives, at least for the moment.
That being said, Square Enix hasn't exactly been shy about letting players know what to expect. The publisher pushed the game's promotional engine into gear as early as September 2023, when it confirmed the game's release date. Since then, all manner of fairly detailed information's been shown, such as the abilities of playable characters like Yuffie and Cait Sith, looks at iconic locations like the Gold Saucer and Junon, and some all-new embellishments, like a theatrical production of "Loveless."
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth launches on February 29, 2024 on PS5. Other platforms for the game have not yet been announced.
