Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord dungeon crawls to full release on May 23 to consoles and PC

Digital Eclipse has announced that the full 3D remake of Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord  is exiting Early Access into a full release on May 23. It will be releasing on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC (SteamGOG).

As reported on the initial announcement of Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord when it was entering Early Access, it is a full 3D remake of the original, highly influential Apple II RPG that fully released back in September 1981. Digital Eclipse aims to preserve the defining features of the core game, while adding modern visuals and quality-of-life improvements for modern audiences. To reflect that, the original game under the Apple II interface runs in real-time as you play through the game because they built this remake on top of its code.

Since its Early Access release last September, Digital Eclipse has updated the game several times to further refine it before full release.

As reported by Gamespark, Digital Eclipse worked with Benny Matsuyama for to fill in Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord's creature lore and descriptions in its Bestiary. Matsuyama is a Japanese novelist that has released several Wizardry works in the late 80s and early 90s including Wizardry Novel: Tonariawase no Hai to SeishunWizardry Novel II: Kaze yo. Ryū ni Todoite iru ka, and Wizardry Gaiden II: Curse of the Ancient Emperor
