Square Enix announces Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call for the West

Square Enix has announced that Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call, the vastly expanded new version of the rhythm-based Final Fantasy music spin-off, is heading West - and will arrive some time before the end of the year.

It's been an interesting path for the Theatrhythm series - after first launching on 3DS, it recieved a batch of DLC of most-wanted themes from various FF titles. Later, a smartphone-based version launched with even more downloadable music and additional downloadable characters. This latest entry brings the spin-off back to the 3DS, dragging with it all the characters and music added in the smartphone version and DLC, as well as a suite of all-new stuff.

The game includes over 200 songs - including music from spin-off media such as Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, the SaGa series, Final Fantasy Tactics and even - uh oh - the Japanese-only Final Fantasy Type-0. Also included are over 60 characters, including newly-added fan favourites such as Tifa, Barret and Ramza from the PS1 era and modern additions such as Final Fantasy XIII-2's Serah.

The game also features several new modes and enhanced RPG elements with a new 'Collecta Crystarium' upgrade system. See the announcement trailer, and some first screenshots, for yourself below.
