Pokemon Legends Arceus: Where to find Munchlax
Completing Pokemon Legends: Arceus' Pokedex is a blast, but it's almost inevitable that like me you'll be stuck searching for rare "Baby Pokemon" spawns to fill out the last few gaps in your records. None of these are quite as elusive as Munchlax, perhaps living up to its rarity in the original Sinnoh-based Diamond and Pearl.
Compared to some of the other Pokemon we've written location guides for like Combee, Hisuian Growlithe, Misdreavus, and Turtwig, Piplup, and Chimchar, Munchlax feels much rarer - it's seemingly a particularly uncommon spawn. Thankfully, there are a handful of locations where you can be sure that Munchlax can spawn - and while we can't give you the luck to find one on your first try, we can certainly help you so that you aren't searching in vain.
Where to Find Munchlax
There are two main locations where you can find a Munchlax in Pokemon Legends Arceus. Now, it is possible to be incredibly lucky and to find a Swarm full of them, which makes things much easier - but generally, you'll want to search either the Snowfall Hot Spring in the Alabaster Icelands or the Deertrack Heights in the Obsidian Fieldlands.
When we eventually found our Munchlax, he was in the latter - which is all well and good, considering that it's the first area of the game. Once again, we must stress that Munchlax is a rare spawn, and simply knowing where he can appear is only half the battle. To better your chances of finding one, you'll want to do the following:
- First off, do a sweep of the premises, either knocking out or catching every Pokemon that isn't a Munchlax. This will allow the game to roll a new set of Pokemon for the location you're checking.
- Second - go to sleep until a new time of day at a basecamp. This will force the world to repopulate missing Pokemon, meaning that there's a chance that a Munchlax will spawn at the location you cleared out.
- Rinse and repeat. If changing the time of day is no longer spawning Pokemon at the location that you're scouting out, return to the village and start fresh.
Again, this will likely be a grind that will take you a while. We've attached an example of where Munchlax can spawn in the Obsidian Fieldlands below - here's hoping you're met with luck on your hunt. You'll be needing it.
Thankfully, once you've caught a Munchlax, most of the game's Pokemon are much easier to acquire - including the rest of the Baby Pokemon. You then have the option of keeping that Munchlax or raising its friendship stat to use the friendship Evolution Method to turn it into Snorlax. Pat yourself on the back for clearing one of the game's greatest hurdles for completion.
