Pokemon Scarlet & Violet Egg Power Sandwich: Recipes to boost Breeding
In Pokemon Scarlet & Violet one of the major mechanics that has undergone a significant overhaul are those surrounding Pokemon Eggs and Breeding. New mechanics mean there's new methods to min-max the process, however - which is why we're here to talk about the Egg Power Sandwich.
If you're not 100% up-to-date on the new breeding mechanics, that might sound a little strange - but here's the deal. In Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, Pokemon breeding and obtaining Pokemon Eggs is now handled via a Picnic system, where you as a trainer can allow to hang your Pokemon to hang out.
This takes the place of the old daycare system - so rather than drop off at daycare and wait, you hold a picnic with two compatible Pokemon, and then cross your fingers and hope for an egg to spawn. However, there's extra steps you can take to help to raise your chances of an egg spawning - which is where the Egg Power Sandwich comes in. You'll need to know how to make it and the egg power ingredients, however.
How to make the Egg Power Sandwich in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet
A key mechanic related to the Picnics in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet is being able to craft sandwiches, a system which itself follows on from creating curries back in Sword & Shield. The power of Sandwiches for Pokemon is even underlined during the main Path of Legends storyline, where you're hunting Titan Pokemon - it's a key part of the Paldea experience.
To create a Sandwich, you simply need to start a picnic from your main menu and then, when at the picnic, choose to make a Sandwich. You can do this one of two ways:
- Make Sandwiches from Pre-set Recipes: Recipes can be learned by chatting to Sandwich obsessed NPCs all the way across the land of Paldea - there's one in most towns, plus elsewhere. Just chatting to them will see them offer up a sandwich recipe, and you can then make that recipe if you have the necessary ingredients.
- Manual Sandwich-making mode: Otherwise, your next and arguably better option is simply to design your own Sandwich from the ground-up. This is useful because it allows you to use any ingredients you like - which means you can pack a Sandwich with the ingredients that lead to the specific buff you want.
Ingredients can be had from stores throughout Paldea, and some places also sell pre-packaged sandwiches already made up and ready to go. However, to obtain the exact buff you want, you'll certainly want to make your own.
Once a sandwich is made, you and your party of Pokemon will consume it. The effects of the sandwich will then take hold, and the buff will continue for the next hour. These buffs can increase the appearance rate of certain types of Pokemon, grant an EXP points buff, increase item drops, and, yes, make it more likely to find eggs during picnics and make those eggs hatch faster - that's the Egg Power Sandiwch.
Pokemon Scarlet & Violet Egg Power Sandwich Ingredients
There's a huge number of sandwich ingredients in the game, but only a handful of them will help you to craft a Pokemon Scarlet & Violet Egg Power Sandwich. Here's a complete list of the ingredients that boost the Egg Meal Power when included in a Sandwich:
Egg Power Sandwich Fillings:
- Apple
- Banana
- Jalapeno
- Kiwi
- Pinapple
- Strawberry
- Basil (weaker buff)
- Watercress (weaker buff)
Egg Power Sandwich Condiments:
- Cream Cheese
- Jam
- Marmalade
- Olive Oil
- Vinegar
- Whipped Cream
Sandwiches with a combination of these ingredients will have a solid level of the Egg Power buff - meaning you're then more likely to have Pokemon eggs spawn during your picnic, so long as two compatible Pokemon of the same species, or one plus a Ditto, are on the picnic with you.
Eggs are deposited into the Picnic Basket, so be sure to interact with the picnic basket and peek inside before ending the picnic! With the Egg Power Sandwich buff in play, you can easily pick up six eggs in half an hour or less.
Outside of the picnic, it'll buff how quickly eggs will hatch - but remember, Pokemon Eggs need to be in your party for steps to count towards their hatching. They're initially delivered to your boxes, but just take them out and walk with them!
