RPG Site Best of 2024 Awards: Readers' Choice in Detail

RPG Site is a completely independent website. We have no media conglomerate ownership, no brand sponsors, and not even a Patreon page. We are completely dependant on you, the reader, reading our website & sharing our articles. We cannot do any of this without you and we appreciate all of you immensely. So, every year we want to ask YOU want your favorite games of the year are. As usual, we allow consideration for both pure-blood RPGs and a few adjacent games that we feel RPG fans would enjoy.

Throughout the month of December, we had you vote in two separate polls: Your favorite RPG of 2024 and your most anticipated RPG for 2025. We already posted our Staff Best of 2024 Awards and our own Most Anticipated for 2025, but we wanted to hear what you had to say. We have results for both polls listed below.

In some places, your votes reflect similarly to our staff decisions, but it some places the reader consensus took a different stance.

Without further ado, here are the results. Results are given as percentages of the total number of votes.

Readers' Choice Favorite 2024 RPGs - Additional Facts and Comments

Our tenth year of the fan poll sees Metaphor: Refantazio join Baldur's Gate 3, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Shin Megami Tensei V, Final Fantasy VII Remake, Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Dragon Quest XI, Persona 5, Final Fantasy XV, and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt as our readers' poll winners.
Some "narrow misses" outside the top ten include Persona 3 Reload, Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, Dragon's Dogma 2, and Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance.
Sega and Square Enix each had three titles in the top ten, but Sega is the publisher with the highest combined vote count among our reader base, with three titles in the top five.
Ys X: Nordics beat Romancing SaGa: Revenge of the Seven by a single vote. Every vote counts!
Last year, four Western RPGs made their way into the top ten vote-getters, including two independent RPGs. In 2024, only BioWare represents the lone Western title, with no indie RPGs polling in the top ten.

Readers' Choice Most Anticipated 2025 RPGs - Additional Facts and Comments

This is RPG Site's seventh year polling our readers for their Most Anticipated RPG of the upcoming year. Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition joins Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Final Fantasy XVI, Elden Ring, Shin Megami Tensei V, Final Fantasy VII Remake, and Kingdom Hearts III.
Narrow misses for the reader top ten Most Anticipated include Lunar Remastered Collection, Atelier Yumia, and Fantasian Neo Dimension.
The combined votes for Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition and Pokemon Legends: Z-A places Nintendo as the publisher with the highest number of votes in the Most Anticipated category.
It's a strong showing by the Falcom's Trails series, where the combined votes for Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter and The Legend of Heroes: Trails Through Daybreak II place it just behind Nintendo, although the two titles have different Western publishers.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 achieved the highest vote percentage for a debut title from its studio. It is the second-highest percentage obtained for a Western RPG in the Most Anticipated category (Cyberpunk 2077 achieved 10.2% of the vote in its year).
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 only beat Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter by a single vote. Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake only beat Avowed by a single vote.
