The RPGs Playable on Nintendo Switch 2 – New RPGs, Switch 2 Editions, Upgrades, and More
The Nintendo Switch 2 is already shaping up to be a great system for RPGs thanks to new games, Nintendo Switch 2 Edition upgrades, ports, and more. Our guide will cover all of the Nintendo Switch 2 RPGs based on what we know of the system leading into launch. Note that the Nintendo Switch is backwards compatible with Nintendo Switch games, so there will already be a massive library available, but some RPGs have issues.
The Nintendo Switch 2 RPGs
Note: This feature will not cover Nintendo Switch 1 games that get free patches, but will include those that get Nintendo Switch 2 Edition releases and games that get full paid upgrades or upgrades to native releases. Beyond that, it will list the RPGs based on what we know so far. It will be updated regularly with more announcements and as we get our actual Nintendo Switch 2 consoles with the games to actually see how they play. The games below are listed in alphabetical order.
Borderlands 4

The Borderlands ports to the original Nintendo Switch were quite impressive so it is going to be interesting to see how Borderlands 4 ends up when it releases this year for Nintendo Switch 2. While the other versions launch on September 23, the Switch 2 version doesn't have a date yet outside of just 2025.
Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster

Square Enix's launch title for Nintendo Switch 2 is a remaster of the 3DS classic with some new content through mini-games made for the Switch 2. While it does seem like some elements have been cut, hopefully this ends up being a good way to experience the game and it leads to Bravely Second: End Layer making the jump to modern platforms.
Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition

The Witcher 3 remains one of the most impressive Nintendo Switch ports so it is good to see CD Projekt Red not only announce that it will bring Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition with the Phantom Liberty expansion, but deliver it at launch on June 5 with a physical option that has the game fully on cartridge, something a few other publishers should take note of.
Deltarune Chapters 1-4

While Deltarune is currently available as a demo that includes the first two chapters, Deltarune Chapters 1-4 will be a paid release that also arrives on Nintendo Switch 2 as a launch title on June 4. The remaining chapters will be available as free updates to this release.
Elden Ring Tarnished Edition

Elden Ring Tarnished Edition brings Elden Ring with the Shadow of the Erdtree and some additional content to Nintendo Switch 2 this year. Elden Ring is a great portable experience as seen by how it plays on Steam Deck, and hopefully the new Nintendo Switch 2 port turns out well.
Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade

Final Fantasy VII Remake debuted on PS4 back in 2020 and it saw an enhanced and upgraded version in the form of Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade that was released on PS5 and eventually on PC. Square Enix is bringing this new version to Nintendo Switch 2 this year.
Hades II

Supergiant Games' first ever sequel, Hades II, will arrive on Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch when it leaves early access on PC platforms. While it doesn't have a date yet, the gameplay for the Switch 2 release looks promising. Hopefully this one ships with cross-save like the original Hades did a few years ago.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment

While many expected a new Nintendo Warriors game for Switch 2, having a new Hyrule Warriors already is quite surprising. Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment is in development by Koei Tecmo's new AAA Studio led by Yosuke Hayashi. It looks like it will provide an experience closer to what Age of Calamity delivered for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild than the debut crossover Warriors game. Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment releases this Winter.
Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess

Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess is arriving as a launch title on June 5 for Nintendo Switch 2 bringing the Japanese-inspired Kagura action strategy experience to Nintendo platforms for the first time with gyro and mouse controls.
No Sleep For Kaname Date - From AI: The Somnium Files

The newest AI: The Somnium Files series game is arriving on Nintendo Switch 2 alongside Switch and Steam in the form of No Sleep For Kaname Date - From AI: The Somnium Files. It is set after the events of the first game. Despite being a spin-off game, it is supposed to have a comparable amount of content as a main entry. Unlike many cross-generation titles, No Sleep For Kaname Date - From AI: The Somnium Files is priced the same as other platforms and will launch on July 25.
Pokemon Legends: Z-A Nintendo Switch 2 Edition

Pokemon Legends: Z-A Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is still without a date, but the recent showing during the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct paints a promising picture for the Nintendo SWitch 2 Edition's visual and performance upgrade over the original Switch release. It arrives later this year.
Raidou Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army

Raidou Remastered feels more like a remake of Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha vs the Soulless Army based on its additions and visual enhancements. Originally announced for just Switch and other platforms, it is also now confirmed to be getting a Nintendo Switch 2 version when it arrives on June 19.
Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma Nintendo Switch 2 Edition

The action RPG and life simulation hybrid, Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma, is another Nintendo Switch game that is seeing a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition release as revealed in the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct. It is also now going to be a launch title for Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5. The reimagined take on Rune Factory continues to look good in each showing as you can see from our Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma preview and interview.
Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar Nintendo Switch 2 Edition

Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar, like some of the other RPGs on this list, was first revealed for PC and Nintendo Switch before being confirmed to also get a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition during the Direct. This Nintendo DS remake adds a lot over the original like updated visuals, new characters, voiced event scenes, and more. Read our preview of Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar here and our interview here. Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar launches on August 27.
The Duskbloods

FromSoftware's Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive is a PvPvE game due next year. The Duskbloods is a fascinating project and Director Hidetaka Miyazaki went over the gameplay loop, role-playing mechanics, and setting recently in an interview with Nintendo here.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Nintendo Switch 2 Edition

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is a huge technical upgrade over the original with support for Zelda Notes in the Nintendo Switch App, improved performance, improved resolution, faster load times, and HDR support. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is included for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers but will be sold for $9.99 for everyone else when it launches with the Switch 2 on June 5. A physical edition is also planned. There is no confirmation if the Breath of the Wild DLC is included or not in this bundle as of this writing.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Nintendo Switch 2 Edition

Just like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is a huge technical upgrade over the original with support for Zelda Notes (including QR code sharing) in the Nintendo Switch App, improved performance, improved resolution, faster load times, and HDR support. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is included for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers but will be sold for $9.99 for everyone else when it launches with the Switch 2 on June 5. A physical edition is also planned.
Wild Hearts S

Wild Hearts S was one of the biggest surprises from the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct. Not only does it bring a very demanding game to Nintendo Switch 2, but it adds 4 player co-op. The original Wild Hearts only supports up to 3 players in co-op. Wild Hearts S launches on July 25 for Nintendo Switch 2.
Witchbrook

Simulation and social RPG Witchbrook had a grand reveal for the original Nintendo Switch before also being confirmed for Nintendo Switch 2 when it launches this Winter for all platforms. Witchbrook also supports up to 4-players.
Yakuza 0 Director's Cut

Yakuza 0 Director's Cut brings one of the best Yakuza games to Nintendo Switch 2 as a launch title on June 5. Yakuza 0 Director's Cut features 26 minutes of new cutscenes with 4K 60 fps gameplay in TV mode on Nintendo Switch. It also adds an online multiplayer mode and the licensed opening song, Bubble, which was cut from prior Western versions of Yakuza 0.
Ys X: Proud Nordics

Ys X: Proud Nordics is a significantly upgraded version of Ys X: Nordics, and it is set to launch this year in Japan for Nintendo Switch 2. Read about the new features and content added here. While Ys X: Nordics launched on PS5, PS4, and Switch in Japan, this version is only announced for Nintendo Switch 2 in Japan so far. No localization has been confirmed as of this writing.
