Super Mario RPG Hidden Treasure Chests Locations - Where to find all 39 hidden treasure chests

In Super Mario RPG, there are invisible chests found throughout the world. You'll learn about this early on from an NPC in Mushroom Kingdom. There are 39 in total. These treasure chests mostly have various healing items and Frog Coins. This page exists to help you to find all of the hidden treasure chests - hopefully, this page is useful to you!

Super Mario RPG Hidden Chests: All Hidden Treasure Chest Locations

First thing's first - it's vital to note that none of the Super Mario RPG hidden treasure chests are missable. All 39 can be obtained at any point in your adventure once you unlock each area of the game.

I know this for a fact because I had to load my clear file and revisit each one to take screenshots you find in this very hidden chests guide! Mopping up the hidden chests later might pair well with filling out the Super Mario RPG Monster List.

It's also worth nothing you will get a Signal Ring accessory very early in the game which will alert you to the presence of a hidden chest in the room, if it is present. This comes from the familiar tutorial NPC. This item was in the original SNES version of Mario RPG, but in the new Switch remake it's been moved earlier in the game. 

For veterans of Super Mario RPG, in the place where you got the Signal Ring in the original game (in Nimbus Town), you'll instead get an Echo Signal Ring, which gives exact locations of the invisible chests. However, you won't need that if you're following this guide.

Hidden Treasure Chest #01

In the entrance to the castle in Mushroom Kingdom, on an upper ledge. This chest was missable in the original version of the game, but not in the remake. There is a nearby toad you can use as a stepstool. Thanks Toad! This chest has a Frog Coin.

Hidden Treasure Chest #02 & #03

In the Mushroom Kingdom item shop basement. One item is on the left, in the center. One item is in the right corner - you need to stand on the Toad's head to reach it. Thanks Toad! Each of these chests has a Flower.

Hidden Treasure Chest #04

In the second screen of Bandit's Way, use a flower to reach it. This chest has a Croaka Cola.

Hidden Treasure Chest #05

Rose Town item shop - in the back corner. This chest has a Frog Coin.

Hidden Treasure Chest #06

In the northern Rose Town house, on the bed. This chest has a Frog Coin.

Hidden Treasure Chest #07

Near the entrance of the Forest Maze. This chest has a Croaka Cola.

In the second above-ground section of Forest Maze, near the stump. This chest has a Frog Coin.

Hidden Treasure Chest #09

In the section of Forest Maze with seven stumps, go down the first one on the right. This chest has a Flower.

Hidden Treasure Chest #10

In the section of Forest Maze with seven stumps, go down the second one on the left. This chest has absolutely nothing.

Hidden Treasure Chest #11

In the section of Forest Maze with seven stumps, go down the last one. It is near the sleeping Wiggler. This chest has a Croaka Cola.

Hidden Treasure Chest #12

After the "Lost Woods" section of the Forest Maze, south of the Save Point. Note: This hidden treasure chest is pretty different from its equivalent in the original release! The Save Point room is after the Forest Maze (not before it, as it was originally), and the room layout is different. The chest still contains a Red Essence, however.

Hidden Treasure Chest #13 & #14

In Pipe Vault, there are two hidden chests on the upper level of the first room. Jump up before the ledge to find a hidden platform, in order to reach it. Each of these chests has a Frog Coin.

In Yo'ster Isle, near the Save Point. This chest has a Frog Coin.

Hidden Treasure Chest #16

In the first screen of Booster Pass, to the left above a cactus. This chest has a Flower.

Hidden Treasure Chest #17

In the first screen of Booster Pass, to the right in a corner. This chest has a Rock Candy.

Hidden Treasure Chest #18

In Booster Tower, near the endless stream of Snifits. This chest has a Frog Coin.

Hidden Treasure Chest #19

In Booster Tower, after jumping up with the Thwomp seesaw, in the corner. This chest has a Frog Coin. (There's also another 'hidden' Frog Coin in the crevice nearby).

Hidden Treasure Chest #20

In Booster Tower just before the curtain room, in the corner. This chest has a Healing Mushroom.

Hidden Treasure Chest #21

In Booster Tower, in the same room as #20, on top of the chest in the other corner. This chest has a Goodie Bag. The only purpose to this item is to sell it.

In Marrymore, in the normal room in the inn. This chest has a Frog Coin.

Hidden Treasure Chest #23

In the Sunken Ship, in the room with the Mario doppleganger, there's a hidden block on the lower right side of the room to make a chest appear. Jump on the doppleganger to reach it. This chest has a Croaka Cola.

Hidden Treasure Chest #24

On the first screen of Land's End, land on the moving elevator block, then jump northward when the elevator is at its highest point. This chest has a Red Essence.

Hidden Treasure Chest #25

On the second screen of Land's End, find the hidden platform black near the hole, then jump up. This chest is on the left side. This chest has a Croaka Cola.

In the forest section of Land's End, near some flowers. This chest has a Frog Coin.

In the cave section of Land's End, in the north-most corner. This chest has a Frog Coin.

In Belome's Temple, after the fortune section, there is a room with two visible chests and two hidden chests. This screenshot should help you find them. Each of these chests has a Frog Coin.

In Monstro Town, in the room with the note on the door. This chest has a Frog Coin.

In Bean Valley, go down the first pipe on the right. The hidden chest is to the left on the second screen. This chest has a Frog Coin.

Hidden Treasure Chest #32

In the section with five pipes, go down the pipe on the right (east) side. The chest is in the corner. This chest has a Red Essence.

In the section with five pipes, go down the pipe on the south-east side. The chest is in the corner. This chest has a Croaka Cola.

In the Nimbus Land item shop, on boxes. This chest has a Frog Coin.

Hidden Treasure Chest #35 & #36

In the Nimbus Land Castle, in the room with three doors, go in the leftmost door. You'll find these two chests next to each other. One of them is in a hidden path. Each of these chests has a Frog Coin.

Hidden Treasure Chest #37

In the Nimbus Land Castle, in the room with three doors, go in the middle door (where the Birdo boss battle is). This chest is on another chest. This chest has a Frog Coin.

Hidden Treasure Chest #38

In the room with three doors, near the left door. This only appears after Valentina has been defeated. This chest has a Frog Coin.

In the Weapon World, near the second save point. This is a Healing Mushroom.
