Black Myth Wukong Chapter 6 Guide: where to go and what to do after getting the nimbus cloud

In the first five chapters of Black Myth: Wukong, the stage design consisted of a huge, yet largely linear, level that possessed several branching paths. Some of these routes were alternate "main" ways, while others led to optional areas with bosses that weren't critical or essential to completing the level. These chapters would have players organically push forward towards a big boss encounter after hours of exploring and fighting through the level.

This design philosophy changes in chapter 6 of Black Myth: Wukong. It shifts to a vast open-world format after obtaining the flying nimbus, a cloud that your character can freely ride on only for this chapter in the game. The lack of a map at all in the game can make navigating this area challenging, since it isn't obvious how to proceed forward once you reach the vast open-world area.

Your main goal is finding the critical path bosses that grant you a piece of Wukong's Mythic-rarity gear when you defeat them. There are other optional bosses you can find, but we'll focus on the main ones only in this guide.

Obtain the Flying Nimbus from the Supreme Celestial Inspector Boss

When you start chapter 6, you'll traverse the level in a linear fashion like previous levels until you come upon the Foothills - Verdant Path Shrine. Past it will be a clearing where the fight against the Supreme Celestian Inspector will occur. It's a bit of a troublesome boss, but nothing impossible. After the fight, your main character will finally obtain the power of flight for the chapter with a cloud they can ride on - the flying nimbus. Proceed on until the vast open world greets you. There will be no mission markers in your UI hand-holding the path forward, but why you're here - we'll do it for you.

Head toward where the Lightning Bolts are Striking

Aside from the serene scenery, the sound of thunder can be heard throughout the open-world area. If you face slightly to the right, you'll notice that some lightning bolts are off in the distance. Your first two destinations will be the landmass that those lightning botls are striking. The lightning bolts will lead you to two different clearings that each contain a single boss. These bosses are the Gold Armored Rhino and the Cloudtreading Deer.

Once again, these bosses are have irritating aspects about them, but they aren't especially difficult after you learn their behavior patterns and exploit their weaknesses. They'll also be located by the Rhino Watch Slope Shrine and Deer Sight Forest Shrine respectively. After beating them both, you should have two pieces of Mythic-rarity gear that once belong to Wukong.

Here is where the Gold Armored Rhino will be.
Here is where the Cloudtreading Deer will be.

What to do with that Giant Cricket that's been Hopping Around

Now here's the tricky part. After you defeat the rhino and deer bosses, the lightning bolts will no longer strike. It's up to you to figure out what to do next and the only thing at your disposal is a cloud you can ride, a massive open-world area, and... a large cricket randomly hopping around. You've probably already encountered it when traveling to the areas where the rhino or deer bosses were.

This cricket, Feng-Tail General, is the next boss you have to defeat, but you can't engage or fight it normally. If you get close to it, there's nothing you can do to it and it just hops away. What's the deal?

Well, here's what you do against Feng-Tail General, the giant cricket. Hop on your flying nimbus and drop onto its back. Your lock-on cursor should point to its antennae. When the main character holds onto its antennae, you will receive an on-screen prompt to hold onto the cricket as it hops roughly 3-4 times draining your Stamina. If you fail this stamina check, use a consumable that increases your maximum stamina temporarily.

Once you pass this, grip onto Feng-Tail General's antennae again. This time, you'll set both your main character and the giant cricket ablaze; it will begin reducing your HP rapidly. Your main character can die and if they do, this means that you do not have enough HP to pass this phase of the fight.

If you do not have enough HP, here are some solutions worth looking into:

  • re-spec your Spark points to fully increase your maximum HP
  • use a consumable that increases your maximum HP temporarily
  • use a consumable that raises your Burn Resistance to severely slow down the rate that your HP is drained

The game will automatically go into a cutscene showing the demise of Feng-Tail General if you manage to pass the HP check of the fight. This will award you with another piece of Wukong's gear.

Go make your way to the Mantis-Catching Swamp Shrine

There's a good chance you've already activated the Mantis-Catching Swamp Shrine when dealing with the giant cricket. If you haven't, it's located in the watery regions in the left part of the open-world area when you're entering it from the Verdant Path Shrine where the initial Supreme Celestial Inspector boss fight took place.

A cutscene should occur that indicates you're on the right path. We won't spoil exactly what happens here, but you'll be facing off against your next main boss. Good luck! Your 4th piece of Wukong's armor should be yours after all is said and done. Only one more place to go!

After getting Wukong's Four Armor Pieces, go to Water Curtain Cave

Now that you've prevailed against four bosses in the open-world area, it will be time to finally get Wukong's legendary staff. Simply head to the innermost area of Water Curtain Cave. If you didn't accidentally stumble upon it beforehand, warp to the Mantis-Catching Swamp. It'll be slightly beyond the little alcove where the shrine is located at an elevated piece of landmass. The cavern is beyond a waterfall beyond a rocky archway.

Travel along the linear path behind the waterfall, watch the cutscene, and the path forward to the final showdown will be clear. Your long journey is almost over. Push on and we hope this guide helped illuminate your path!
