How to import Dragon Age: Inquisition choices into Dragon Age: The Veilguard
Set nearly a full decade after the conclusion of Dragon Age Inquisition, Dragon Age: The Veilguard is both a follow-up to BioWare's last Dragon Age game and a break from the past. The game follows a fully new player protagonist, Rook, as they confront the elven gods unleashed by former Inquisition companion Solas. Like previous Dragon Age games, The Veilguard allows players to change the state of the world somewhat to reflect what went down in the past, but The Veilguard does it a bit differently. Read on for our quick guide on how to import your Dragon Age Inquisition choices into The Veilguard.
Naturally, this guide contains major spoilers for Dragon Age Inquisition and minor potential spoilers for Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Be warned.
How to Import Your Inquisitor into Dragon Age: The Veilguard
The import process happens during character creation, just before you settle on a finalized look for Rook. On the summary screen, which displays your choices for Rook's lineage, gender identity, and faction, you'll notice a banner on the right side referring to possible choices in Dragon Age Inquisition. Hit the button to "customize" to make changes. Otherwise, the game will proceed with a semi-random default option.
Choosing the "customize" option will open up a "Past Adventures: The Inquisition" screen with a brief summary of Dragon Age Inquisition's plot. Hit the "Make Changes" button to start adjusting things to your liking.
You can also adjust the Inquisitor's appearance, changing their gender, lineage (race), and look, using the same options available in Rook's character creator.
Which Dragon Age Inquisition Choices Get Imported Into Dragon Age: The Veilguard?
As was confirmed by BioWare prior to The Veilguard's release, only three major choices from Inquisition are reflected in the final game. This is because BioWare deliberately opted to exclude choices that don't have a direct impact on Rook's struggle to save northern Thedas from Solas and the risen elven gods. However, using the in-game Past Adventures customizer, you can define three things about the Inquisitor's adventures in the south.
You Can Choose Who the Inquisitor Romanced in Dragon Age Inquisition
During Dragon Age: The Veilguard character creation, you can select which of Inquisition's characters the Inquisitor romanced (or none at all, if that's what you prefer).
Note that the same restrictions apply here as they did in Inquisition, meaning only Inquisitors of a certain gender or lineage will be able to choose certain romance options. For example, you'll only be able to say that the Inquisitor romanced Solas if you chose to make the Inquisitor a female elf, and so on.
You Can Choose What Happened to the Inquisition After Trespasser
You'll also be able to choose what happened to the Inquisition as an organization in the wake of the Dragon Age: Inquisition Trespasser DLC (which also serves as the kick-off point for The Veilguard's narrative).
You can either state that the Inquisition was disbanded, or that the Inquisition was absorbed into the Chantry. This choice will be reflected in moments where certain characters recall what happened in the intervening years.
You Can Choose the Inquisitor's Attitude Towards Solas
If you remember the Trespasser DLC for Inquisition, you may recall that the Inquisitor has many reasons to be mad at Solas. As you start The Veilguard, you can decide just how mad they are. You can either say that the Inquisitor vowed to stop Solas, or that the Inquisitor vowed to save Solas from himself.
In other words, you can set the disposition of the Inquisitor towards their former companion, turned major antagonist.
And that's it. Though you can't import absolutely everything you did in Dragon Age Inquisition into The Veilguard the three choices you can set are treated with some significance, at multiple points throughout the game.
