Monster Hunter Wilds Armorcharm and Powercharm Guide – How To Unlock and Equip Both for Improved Stats

Monster Hunter Wilds is finally here, and as has been the case with the prior games I played, I was curious to find the unlock required for the Armorcharm and Powercharm to get boosted attack and defense stats. This guide will cover what the Powercharm and Armorcharm do, the stat bonus you get in Monster Hunter Wilds, the unlocks needed, and whether you can upgrade them. Note that this guide will have spoilers for a location from the end of the story.

What is the Armorcharm and Powercharm in Monster Hunter Wilds

Ever since I started playing Monster Hunter games during the 3DS days, it has been tradition to try and get the Armorcharm and Powercharm for improved stats. Just having these items in your pouch during quests usually gives you a boost to attack and defense (for each charm). Each game since has treated them a bit differently, but you usually end up unlocking them for purchase and then even upgrading them. In Monster Hunter Wilds, you unlock them both through specific side missions after you finish the main story and get into high rank.

Monster Hunter Wilds Armorcharm defense boost and Powercharm attack boost stats

In Monster Hunter Wilds, I tested with and without weapon attack coefficient enabled (for weapons like the Great Sword, the weapon coefficient is larger for the number it displays). If this coefficient talk isn't something you know or care about, don't worry. The game defaults to displaying weapon attack power with the coefficient. With my current equipment, storing the Armorcharm in my item pouch saw my armor go from 351 to 363. The defense stat increase is +12 when you keep the Armorcharm in your item pouch during hunts.

Moving to the Powercharm, my weapon attack power went from 215 to 221 when I kept the Powercharm in my item pouch. For the weapon attack power with coefficient, my Great Sword's attack power went from 1032 to 1061 with the Powercharm in my item pouch. Basically the Powercharm gives you a +6 raw Attack boost (without coefficient).

How to unlock the Armorcharm in Monster Hunter Wilds

The NPC Cobb gives you the side mission "Secure Wounded Hollow" (set in this game's arena) that has you hunting two Hirabami at once. Once you complete this and return to Cobb to report, you will find the Armorcharm in your inventory. You need to be HR 16 or higher to get this side mission (quest).

How to unlock the Powercharm in Monster Hunter Wilds

The NPC Rex gives you the side mission "As Gatekeeper" (set in this game's arena) that has you hunting two Ajarakan at once. Once you complete this and return to Rex to report, you will find the Powercharm in your inventory. You need to be HR 21 or higher to get this side mission (quest).

Does Monster Hunter Wilds have the Armortalon and Powertalon?

As of the base game's launch on day one, there is currently no way to get the Armortalon and Powertalon. In prior games, you buy the Armorcharm and Powercharm and upgrade them with specific Monster parts to have one Armortalon, one Powertalon, one Armorcharm, and one Powercharm in your inventory. It is possible this will be added through title updates or other patches.

Monster Hunter Wilds is now available worldwide on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam). Check out all our Monster Hunter Wilds guides here.
