Avowed Transmogrification Guide: How to customize your gear

Obsidian Entertainment's new Pillars of Eternity-based RPG Avowed is a surprisingly flexible game, with a freeform building system and the ability to wear any armor in the game without restriction. You can even change how it looks with a new feature called "Transmogrification." Read on to find out how to use transmog to customize your gear in Avowed.

How to Transmog Armor and Clothing in Avowed

A reference to similar systems in games like World of Warcraft and Diablo, Transmogrification in Avowed is the ability to make a given piece of gear look like another piece of gear for cosmetic purposes. If you dislike the bright green finish of the Engwithan Cuirass, you can make it look like the more drab black plate of the Obsidian Order Cuirass, without sacrificing its specific statistical bonuses.

Here's how to Transmogrify your Gear in Avowed:

  1. Have both gear items in your inventory.
  2. Wear the gear item you want to use.
  3. Highlight the gear item you prefer the look of, then press the "Transmogrify" button. On PC this is bound to right-click by default.
  4. Your equipped gear will change its appearance to match the transmog.
  5. You must keep the transmog gear in your inventory to maintain its appearance, so don't store the gear in your party stash, break it down, or sell it.
  6. Note that armor has weight, so you may need to take your preferred looks into account when managing your inventory

And that's it. Avowed's transmogrification system applies to full suits of armor, as well as gloves and boots. It can't be used on weapons or shields.
