Monster Hunter Wilds Photo Mode Guide – How To Use Photo Mode During Hunts, Features, and More

While past games in the series have included a camera or view mode, Monster Hunter Wilds takes things a step further with a dedicated Photo Mode that you can access even during hunts. This is a great addition, but Capcom hasn't really shown off how to use it or what it can do in singleplayer and multiplayer. This Monster Hunter Wilds Photo Mode guide will cover the features of the mode, how to activate it, what settings to change, and what we'd like to see from the mode in future updates.

Where is Photo Mode in Monster Hunter Wilds

By default, Photo Mode is located in the last tab of the system menu under Options and Keyboard Configuration. You can enable it from here in and out of hunts.

Monster Hunter Wilds Photo Mode features

Photo Mode in Monster Hunter Wilds lets you zoom in and out, pause the game (if you are offline or in online singleplayer, but not during multiplayer), adjust camera position, and also get into a more-detailed camera menu using the L1 or LB button. This menu lets you adjust field of view (camera view), camera rotation, toggle depth of field, and focal ratio.

So far, Monster Hunter Wilds Photo Mode has felt like a normal camera mode, but you can press Square (PlayStation controller) / X (Xbox controller) to switch view mode. This will actually let you take photos of your hunter in and out of action. When in this mode, you can also press L1 / LB to use gestures or activate any of the Pose Sets you own in Monster Hunter Wilds. Note the control prompts on the top right because you can also activate another sub-menu to hide the UI, view your album, and use a timer to grab a photo after 3 or 10 seconds.

Map photo mode to the radial menu in Monster Hunter Wilds

I recommend mapping photo mode to one of the radial menus you use. I mapped it to the Communication radial menu so I have access to it easily during hunts. Remember that you will not be able to pause during multiplayer and monsters can attack you while you are in this mode.

Monster Hunter Wilds Photo Mode updates we would like to see

The big ones are obviously color filters and the ability to use the stickers we've unlocked or purchased in Monster Hunter Wilds during photo mode for decoration. Beyond that, it would be good to have more camera zoom and focus options beyond what's included right now.

Monster Hunter Wilds is now available worldwide on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam). Check out all our Monster Hunter Wilds guides here.
