Monster Hunter Wilds Crown Farming Guide – Gold Crown, Silver Crown, and Miniature Crown Monsters

Monster Hunter Wilds makes farming crowns easier than past games. If you attempted to get 100% completion or get the Platinum Trophy in Monster Hunter World and Iceborne, you know how much time it takes to get all the trophies and achievements related to crowns. Monster Hunter Wilds has seven trophies/achievements linked to crowns, but if you're new to all of this, you likely are curious what a crown monster is. This guide will cover how to use binoculars to spot a crown monster, what a crown monster is, and why you might want to farm crown monsters. Note that crown farming is really only something you worry about during the endgame, but there will be spoilers for monsters and endgame mechanics here.

What are crown monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds

Monsters that are considerably larger or smaller than the average physical size of said monster are crown monsters. As you can see in the screenshot above, the tempered Chatacabra is a crown monster.

What is the difference between a gold crown and a silver crown monster in Monster Hunter Wilds

Silver crowns are usually moderately smaller/larger than the average size while gold crowns are much larger/smaller than the average size of said monster. As you can see in the screenshot below, the Rathian is not a crown monster.

How to spot a crown monster in Monster Hunter Wilds

In Monster Hunter World and Iceborne, we had to rely on physical sizes and estimations before hunting a specific monster in the hope that it was a proper crown monster. In Monster Hunter Wilds, spotting a crown monster is considerably easier. You can just use your binoculars and zoom into a large monster on the map to find out if it is a crown monster or not. There is an icon to indicate this.

How to use the binoculars in Monster Hunter Wilds to find a crown monster

Using your item bar or radial menu (if you've mapped it there), scroll to the binoculars and press Square (PlayStation) or X (Xbox) to equip the binoculars. You can then use the right analog stick to move the camera. The trigger buttons let you zoom in and out.

Monster Hunter Wilds crown farming Event Quests

It is very likely that Capcom's Monster Hunter Wilds Event Quests start introducing multi-monster hunts with crown monsters involved. This has been the case in the past. It remains to be seen if we get crown Event Quests around launch or much later though.

Monster Hunter Wilds is now available worldwide on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam). Check out all our Monster Hunter Wilds guides here.
