Monster Hunter Wilds Grand Escunite Guide – Where Is the Grand Escunite and How To Fish and Catch It
If you've been doing side missions in Monster Hunter Wilds, you likely will have run into Kanya, the NPC fishing at a base camp. She's the one who gives you the fishing side missions, and her final one is to catch a Grand Escunite. This guide covers how you can catch a Grand Escunite, where to fish to get it, the bait to use, and the location I saw it spawn in most often. There will be no story spoilers in this guide, but there will be some location spoilers for maps beyond the first one so keep that in mind.
What is the Grand Escunite in Monster Hunter Wilds
Escunites are creatures that have hard shells and hide their bodies from predators, but can use tentacles to catch prey. The Grand Escunite is The Grand is a rare spawn for aquatic life in Monster Hunter Wilds.
Where is the Grand Escunite in Monster Hunter Wilds
In my testing, I found the Grand Escunite in the Scarlet Forest at Area 8 (Underground Cave). If you don't have a camp here, I recommend doing so since it makes it easier to check for the Grand Escunite, and also has lots of ore around to gather from. I've marked the location on the map below.
How to catch a Grand Escunite in Monster Hunter Wilds
If you've been following Kanya's questline with the likes of the goldenfish, you will have been given the Monster Hunter Wilds side mission or quest titled Razzle Dazzle by her. Once you've accepted it, go to the location above and make sure you set the time to Evening or Nighttime and the season to Plenty when you rest at camp. This is the most reliable way to spawn it in my testing. I caught two in a row within minutes today using the Evening time and at the Area 8 camp I showed above.
Once you've spotted it (make sure it is a Grand Escunite and not a normal one), equip the Tentalce Jig bait by pressing up or down on the d-pad. The Grand Escunite won't just bite the bait immediately. Use the left analog stick to jig the line or use quick reel (shown on the top right of the screen). Once it has taken the bait, simply press RT or R2 depending on your controller.

Once you've spoken to Kanya and been told to catch a Grand Escunite. You just need to go the location I've shown above and catch it. Return back to Kanya in the Scarlet Forest base camp and talk to her to complete the side mission or quest.
What is the difference between a Grand Escunite and a normal Escunite
While both may look the same physically in the water, note that the Grand Escunite has a more shiny pearl-like appearance while the regular Escunite just looks run-of-the-mill. I've shown how both look in the comparison image below. Even the regular Escunites seem rarer than the Goldenfish as a spawn in my testing.
