Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition Missables Guide for Volitaris – Finding All Party Members & Spears
THE FOLLOWING GUIDE WILL FEATURE SPOILERS FOR THE NEW STORY CONTENT OF XENOBLADE CHRONICLES X: DEFINITIVE EDITION.
In Chapter 13 (Act III) of Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition, the inhabitants of Mira gather on The White Whale II to escape their dying planet and defeat Void. After an initial battle, your new party member Alois and the Ares Prime are absorbed. Your party finds themselves seperated in Volitaris, a map of floating continents exclusive to the new content. The structure of this map is a lot different than Mira from the base game, with no Segments or FrontierNav to help navigate. Your mini map cannot be used, and the game expects you to track down all your friends before going to fight your own boss. There are also six large Spears found in the map, which can be shot into Void's final form to weaken him before the final boss. Both of these activities are technically optional, but we recommend combing through this to re-assemble your party. None of these are marked on your map with objective markers, and the intent here is for you to track all of this optional content yourself. Finding each character will give you a short scene of them affirming your relationship, bringing their character arcs full circle.
Note: Alois is not one of the party members hidden in Volitaris. Saving him will happen in the Main Story Quest after you go challenge the final boss.

Tracking Down Your Party 101
If you'd like to find all of them yourself, it's a good idea to keep your eyes out on the mini-map and your surroundings.
While you cannot see any of the continents on your mini-map, when you approach one of your party memebers' general location you'll see a red circle to give you a general idea on where the party member is.

Depending on their location, they might shoot a flare up when you approach. You can use this to narrow down their general location from afar.

Map of Volitaris' Optional Content
If you'd like a general map for finding all spears and missing party members, we've made one for you. Spears are labeled on this map with "S#". Also worth mentioning that because the map of Volitaris doesn't have coordinates, this map will point you in the general direction of where to find the character or spear. In specific instances a character and a spear will overlap, so their placement might be not exactly be accurate here. The many floating islands of Volitaris feature their own cave systems, so some of these characters will either be above or below ground. If you'd like exact instructions for each party member, keep reading.

Where To Find Your Party Members
In this guide, we'll be showing screenshots of both the map location and the in-game location you can expect to find the person in question. This way if the text explanation on how to reach them is not clear enough, the screenshots can help you find the spot on the map where you can look. For the map reference images, use the Player/Skell Icon to determine the location of the party member.
Elma & Lin:

Location: Ochus Corridor
These characters will join you on the starting continent of Ochus Corridor, as part of the main story. By following the path to your Skells so you can unlock the rest of the new map, you will naturally recruit both of them.
Doug

Location: Ochus Corridor
Go into the cave Ochus Corridor at the bottom of the starting continent. Make your way to the end, fighting whatever you need to on the inside until you reach Doug in a spacious room.
Irina

Location: Ochus Corridor
Irina is found on the starting continent, slightly east of the first spear. You should be able to find her by making a slight detour on the way to acquiring your skells.
Alexa

Location: Forbidden Quala
Alexa is right out in the open on Forbidden Quala, slightly south of Spear 3 with a perfect view of the main ship.
Yelv

Location: Forbidden Quala
Yelv is found in the south section of Forbidden Quala, in the entrance to a cave system easily accessible from the bottom part of the continent. You can enter this by flying in with your Skell, but be careful of the tyrant ready to greet you. After fighting or sneaking by, he's there outside the doorway to take you further into the cave to find more of your friends.
Hope

Location: Forbidden Quala
Hope is found in the cave system of Forbidden Quala, in a spot outside that is inaccessible via Skell. There are two ways to get to her: The Forbidden Quala Cave System has three main paths attached to the center room. From the perspective of the entrance where you came in to get Yelv, go up the path and take the first right. She will be at the end of that path.

Alternatively, if you fly in from the top right of Forbidden Quala you can find an entrance to the cave that will take you directly to her.
Murderess
Location: Garius Airspace
Southwest of Yurgas's Nostrils is Garius Airspace, a floating island with a cave with two entrances. You won't need to go into that though, as Murderess is hanging outside on the southern part of the island.
Celica

Location: Sierra Corpsus
Celica is found on the southern landmass with the two holes, called Yurgas' Nostrils. Drop into the south east hole with your Skell, all the way to the bottom. To your west is an entrance to a room of the cave where Celica is waiting. Defeat the three Pearl Oc-serv (or avoid them, if you're able to) and recruit her. We recommend doing this only once you have a team of four level fifty Skells.
Nagi

Location: Sierra Coripsus
Nagi is located out in the open on the bottom left of the north floating continent that makes up Sierra Coripsus. He’s south of Spear 4.
Neilnail

Location: Sierra Coripsus
Jump down from either hole with your Skell, and search for a passageway connecting both holes. If you're having trouble finding this, face the other hole when you leap in and then fall until you see a passageway directly in front of you. This passageway should break out into another large room with an Alien Container, and then further into a room with an ATC Quo Tyrant and another container. Look very carefully for a hole in the wall at the end of this passageway as it is quite easy to miss, then fly in and you will find the spear and Neilnail.
Note: If you do the Spear first and forget to get Neilnail for whatever reason, the hole created from the spear being launched can be accessible now with your Skell. Just fly in and recruit her.
Mia

Location: Lebra Fault Zone
On the north side of the floating continent of Lebra Fault Zone is a little cave entrance you can only access by flying around in your Skell. Fly into the cave to see an Alien Container in a big room, and then follow the path east, defeating any enemies on your way. At the end of this cave will be Mia near another Alien Container.
L

Location: The White Whale 2’s Bridge
You can either fly to the south of Volitaris, or just teleport there after you pick up your Skells. He's just standing on the Bridge. L seemed to be fine hanging out on the Bridge, landing near the ship and just relaxing for the whole time while you were off busting your butt finding everyone else. It's cool, L can stay on the bridge.
H.B.

Location: Ravaged Vargo
On the north-east part of this continent, H.B is hanging out on a cliff.
Ga Jiarg

Location: Ravaged Vargo
Around the middle of the continent, at one of the lowest elevations, is Ga Jiarg standing out in the open by a Cliff.
Liesel

Location: Ravaged Vargo
She's located on the west side of the continent of Ravaged Vargo, out in the open. You can find her near a mountain.
Bozé

Location: Sacred Perses
At the top of the series of floating land masses that make up Sacred Perses is a small island where Bozé is just out in the open.
Gwin

Location: Sacred Perses
At the bottom of the main Sacred Perses landmass is a hole you can enter with your Skell. As you fly up into the cave, you will see a Yowaghuz's Seidr (Tyrant). Fly all the way up, fighting or ignoring the tyrant, and go out the south exit of the large room you find yourself in. The other side takes you outside to another entrance, but you'll need your Skell to bridge the gap anyway so come in from the bottom. Gwin is waiting here on the other side.
Frye

Location: Boötis Reef
At the south west of the floating continents, near the highest elevation, is Frye. He's standing out in the open, but easy to miss.
Phog

Location: Boötis Reef
Like his brother, he's on Bootis reef. You can find him on the other side of the area, on one of the northern floating mini islands.
Finding The Spears:
These spears have no name and can be acquired in any order. The approach taken to designate them by number comes from starting in the center and traveling counter-clockwise around the whole whole map. Every time you activate a Spear you'll get a cutscene of it rising from the ground and shooting itself to stab Void, weakening it.

Spear 1

Location: Ochus Corridor
This is found while on the path to your Skells on the first continent, as you cross a bridge to take you to a higher elevation.
Spear 2

Location: Ochus Corridor
This spear is found down the path on the starting continent, directly to the east of where you pick up your Skells. You should be able to see it immediately after hopping in your Skell after acquiring it again, and can fly over there with ease, so we recommend heading right over to them.
Spear 3
Location: Forbidden Quala
Spear 3 is visible while flying around Forbidden Quala in a Skell, but the control device appears to be lodged into the landmass. To get to Spear 3's access point, start from the big room at the Forbidden Quala cave system, take the north west entrance out to a little path outside. You will exit the caves to find a partially enclosed path where you can see the rest of the map. Turn left to find three Milsaadi Curses, blocking the path to the spear’s access point. Since skells are not able to reach this location, if you plan on fighting them all we recommend attempting this spear after you have recruited four characters with up to date gear. Use the first two enemies as an opportunity to build up TP, because the third Milsaadi Curse will be a Tyrant. If fighting them is too much of a challenge, it is technically possible to sneak past the Tyrant at the end if you’re lucky.
Spear 4
Location: Sierra Coripsus
The spear can be seen on the northern continent of Sierra Coripsus, but is inaccessible unless you enter from the Yurgas's Nostril cave system at the Southern Continent.
Spear 5

Location: Ravaged Vargo
In the middle of Ravaged Vargo is the access point for Spear 5, it will be hard to miss. The Ancient Device will deny you entry though, saying a lockdown has been engaged because of a nearby enemy. All you need to do is look directly up to see the giant level 55 Betelgeuse Xern. Bring in four well prepared Skells and take it down to shoot this Spear into Void.
After your fifth spear a cutscene will play mentioning that Void has gotten weaker. You can go on and fight the boss whenever, but might as well get the last one.
Spear 6

Location: Boötis Reef
This spear has a bit of a unique gimmick to it. When you approach the spear at the Actoras's Axle landmark, you'll see a cutscene where three Ganglion mechs (Galdrs) are seen locking the Spear and fleeing. They've taken three Release keys needed to activate it, and are hiding around the reefs. While they aren't marked on the map, they will not leave the vicinity of the Reef. You can head back to the bridge at any time to restore any of your Skells if they break, as once defeated they won’t respawn.
Finding The Three Keys To The Boötis Reef Spear (Spear 6)
Trinty Galdr Alpha
Located near the south-east area of Boötis Reef. This is the only one who does not move around, but is trying to hide by tucking under one of the reefs. Defeating it will reward you with Shield Release Key α.
Trinity Galdr Beta
Located flying around in the north-east area of Boötis Reef. Defeating it will reward you with Shield Release Key β.
Trinity Galdr Gamma
Located flying around in the south-west island area of Boötis Reef. Defeating it will reward you with Shield Release Key γ.
With these three keys you can activate the final spear and begin your final fight against the fully weakened void. Enjoy the end of the game!
