Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of Elusive Age S - Definitive Edition releasing for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam on December 4
Square Enix has announced that Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of Elusive Age S - Definitive Edition will release for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam on December 4. It will also be available on Xbox Game Pass Console and PC the same day. This is the upgraded Nintendo Switch version of the game brought to other platforms.
Pre-orders are now live on Steam and the Microsoft Store, with PlayStation pre-orders available at a later date, priced at $39.99. For what it's worth, Square Enix currently has not announced any possible upgrade or discount for players who already own Dragon Quest XI on PS4 or PC.
The Japanese website for the new version includes an FAQ (available in English), which states that players who own the original PS4 release cannot upgrade. It also states that this new version is a port of the Switch version, and Square Enix states that "the graphics are not the same as they were for the original Dragon Quest XI on PlayStation 4".
The Definitive Edition includes new additions made to the original PlayStation 4 version, including new side stories for companions, 2D mode & the 16-bit World of Tickington, English & Japanese audio, an orchestrated soundtrack, photo mode, among many other quality of life improvements.
The announcement video made during the Xbox Games Showcase pre-show can be seen in the below video. Square Enix also took to Xbox Wire to describe Dragon Quest XI to a potential new audience not familiar with the series.
