Collection of SaGa Final Fantasy Legend releasing for Nintendo Switch on December 15
Square Enix has announced Collection of SaGa Final Fantasy Legend, a collection of the first three games in the SaGa series, which originally released for the Game Boy from 1989 to 1991. The collection is set to release on December 15 for Nintendo Switch eShop worldwide, priced at $19.99.
When these games were released in the West, they were given a different title from the SaGa branding and were instead called Final Fantasy Legend. Hence the collection's title references both SaGa and Final Fantasy Legend.
This release includes some new additional features to the classic games. In a press release, Square Enix describes these additions as follows:
COLLECTION of SaGa FINAL FANTASY LEGEND is a great introduction to this quintessential series RPG fans won’t want to miss as they journey through fantasy worlds, fight monsters, explore towns, battle dungeons, and more while enjoying brand new features that improve the experience including:
- Character speed boost
- Adjustable screen magnification
- Retro display mode to replicate that glorious Game Boy experience
- New commemorative music and illustrations
Additional features include: a special anniversary song, 8 different in-game wallpapers and the choice to play with either Japanese or English text.

Originally released on the Game Boy system, the first three titles in the SaGa series – The FINAL FANTASY Legend, FINAL FANTASY Legend II and FINAL FANTASY Legend III – are coming to Nintendo Switch in one collection! Navigate through fantasy worlds as you fight monsters, customize your characters, explore towns, dungeons and more. A high-speed mode and other helpful features have been added, while retaining the appeal of the original titles. To commemorate the 30th anniversary of the series, a special anniversary song is included. And if players want a truly retro experience, they can detach the Joy-Con controllers and hold them vertically to replicate the original, beloved Game Boy system. COLLECTION of SaGa FINAL FANTASY LEGEND will launch digitally on Nintendo Switch on Dec. 15.
