Mass Effect anime in the works
EA, Bioware and FUNimation Entertainment have revealed that they're partnering to bring a Mass Effect anime feature film to market in the Summer of 2012.
The Tokyo-based anime production company T.O. Enterainment are to handle production of the film alongside EA, Bioware and FUNimation, though details are currently sketchy on what part of the Mass Effect universe the movie will predict and in what period of time.
The script for a Mass Effect Hollywood movie is still being worked on, and recent leaks indicate that particular movie will take place during the first contact war before the games - when the humans first meet and do battle with the Turians.
What we do know is that Casey Hudson, executive producer and spiritual father of the Mass Effect series will play the role of producer on the film to ensure it remains true to the original source material and universe.
"Over the last few years, we have revealed different pieces of the Mass Effect world through different media. Extending the story through an anime medium is another amazing opportunity for us,” Casey said in today's press release. "Partnering with FUNimation ensures that we will bring this rich universe to life with the utmost quality and the same attention to detail that the Mass Effect games are known for."
FUNimation are already working on a Dragon Age feature with EA and Bioware, which is already underway. The Mass Effect movie will release in the Summer of 2012. In other expanded universe action for that series, there's a new novel out later this year.
