Granblue Fantasy: Relink slated for release in 2022 with additional PlayStation 5 version
Cygames revealed more details on Granblue Fantasy: Relink at today's Granblue Fantasy Fes 2020. The long-awaited console game adaptation of the popular mobile game Granblue Fantasy finally received a release window in 2022, with a PlayStation 5 version also confirmed in addition to the PlayStation 4.
The stream also revealed that Relink was originally due to have a new protagonist named Blue, but she was ultimately replaced by the mobile game protagonists Gran and Djeeta. The latter will eventually wear a new outfit based on Blue's costume design in the middle of Relink's story.
The last time we heard about Relink was in last year's Granblue Fantasy Fes 2019, where Cygames showcased a 4-player co-op mode with Lancelot, Vane, Percival, and Siegfried. Back then, Cygames was still not ready to announce a release window for this console game, as they did not want to overpromise a release date and crunch the team. Although Tetsuya Fukuhara also expressed an interest in bringing Granblue Fantasy games to PC via Steam—we did see the fighting spin-off game Granblue Fantasy: Versus released on the platform—only the PS4 and PS5 are currently listed as Relink's platforms.
Tetsuya Fukuhara noted in the latest Fes that Relink is currently in the alpha version stage, where several "features and resources are still unfinished or using temporary assets," so there won't be anything new to be shown from this project in 2021. However, as it had always appeared on every Granblue Fantasy Fes ever since its first reveal in the 2017 Fes, the earliest we can expect more news on Relink will be at the 2021 Fes that should be held around this week the next year.
Granblue Fantasy: Relink is currently planned to be available for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 in 2022.
