Hellgate: London Goes Free-To-Play
It has been a pretty long time since we heard anything about Hellgate: London, the action RPG hybrid that came out way back in 2007. Designed by a group of former Blizzard employees that worked on the Diablo series that gathered themselves into the now-defunct Flagship Studios, the game was hotly anticipated when it was first announced. In fact, one of the first articles for RPGSite was my preview for the game waaaaaaay back in the archaic year of 2006. Unfortunately, Flagship had to shut down (I poured one out for Titan Quest), and was forced to give up all rights to their IPs as a sort of plea bargain to the bank that funded them, including Hellgate.
Now, we have gotten word that Hanbitsoft, the new owners of the property who have been banking off a free-to-play model of HGL in Korea called Hellgate London: Resurrection, will be opening a North American server later this year, with a closed beta being held on June 3rd-5th.
