Cyberpunk 2077 sold 13.7 million copies in 2020
CD Projekt revealed during their fiscal year 2020 earnings call that Cyberpunk 2077 sold 13.7 million copies in 2020 alone. Despite a mess of launch issues and various refund campaigns, CD Projekt Red's open-world RPG seems to have been a big financial success for the Polish RPG house.
A video presentation of the financial update was posted alongside the press release. In the video, CFO Piotr Nielubowicz talks about some of the development and release date struggles, citing high ambitions and difficult pandemic conditions:
The update also points at other group projects such as The Witcher series, including the upcoming Monster Slayer, alongside GOG.com financials and Gwent performances.
Cyberpunk 2077 originally released last December but arrived on consoles specifically in a woeful state, resulting in a confusing cavalcade of refund requests, ultimately resulting in being removed from the PlayStation Store entirely. Recent patches continue to try to shape up the game and PlayStation 5 / Xbox Series X console updates are still set for the back half of the year.
