Monster Hunter Stories 2 battle system shown for the first time
Capcom has revealed gameplay details for Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin at today's Monster Hunter Digital Event stream. This also marks the first time they went into further details on the battle systems, complete with interface displays. While the first game only had four weapon types, this prequel will add more weapons like Gunlance and Bow.
The gameplay explanation started from the 34-minute mark of the stream. Stories 2 continues the path of its prequel in being a turn-based command RPG with battle encounters by touching wild monsters on the field. As the game features an attack triangle advantage system, the player will be able to switch the active monster and even weapon right during battles. You may also be accompanied by a battle buddy as additional party members at certain parts of the story. Just like in the mainline games, you can also focus on attacking a certain monster's part to eventually break it and obtain bonus rewards.
Other than the battle gameplay, the trailer also showed more monsters and characters that will appear in this game. The monster list gets even bigger with the inclusions of Bazelgeuse, Tobi-Kadachi, Paolumu, Glavenus, and Gammoth (this makes Astalos the only Generations flagship monster yet to be confirmed as of this writing). Those who have played the first game will also notice that Lilia and Reverto will return in the sequel's story. Reverto will even be able to accompany you after a certain point in the story.
