Dragon Quest X Online Confirmed for Wii and Wii U
Square-Enix has finally lifted the veil on the much anticipated Dragon Quest X.
Officially titled "Dragon Quest X: Rise of the Five Tribes Online," the game will actually be a MMORPG, which is a first for the series. Unlike past games, it's also being developed in-house by Square-Enix, complete with opening videos by their Visual Works studio.
The game is still, unsurprisingly for the Wii, but a Wii U version will also be made available with enhanced visuals at a later date. Both Wii and Wii U versions will be cross-compatible, with some possible 3DS StreetPass functionality added as well.
The world of Dragon Quest X is said to be massive, including 5 different lands, with 5 different races living on them. Like most MMOs, equipment will be visible on the player character. Combat will be menu based, following battle transitions, however, your party members, if you choose to play off-line, will remain AI controlled.
The Wii version will support Wii Remote/Nunchuck, Classic Controller/Pro, and USB keyboards. The Wii U version's control scheme is currently unknown at this time.
According to the game's developers, we can expect the Wii version of Dragon Quest X sometime in 2012. Pricing and usage fees are still TBD.
