Riot unexpectedly launches League of Legends RPG, Ruined King, today and reveals more games
Riot Games’ Bilgewater adventure, Ruined King: A League of Legends Story, is out today in a surprise launch on Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and PC (Steam, Epic) The company’s publishing arm, Riot Forge, made the announcement in a streaming event along with several other reveals.
Ruined King was always slated for this year, but a November 16 launch wasn’t made public until today—when the game was already upon us. It’s the first of many Riot Forge games set in the League of Legends universe and brought to life by indie studios, with Ruined King from the Darksiders Genesis developers Airship Syndicate.
Set in Bilgewater and the Shadow Isles, Ruined King is a single-player turn-based RPG following characters like Miss Fortune, Ahri, Yasuo, Pyke, Illaoi, and Braum. It takes place after the events of Burning Tides and—you guessed it—will send you on a journey to prevent the return of the Ruined King. During Riot’s stream, Airship Syndicate explained its story largely focuses on Miss Fortune and Illaoi’s strained history, while Yasuo and Ahri will bond over their past.
Riot’s stream also announced the surprise release of Hextech Mayhem: A League of Legends Story, which is a rhythm game just revealed a week ago. In addition, the event saw new game debuts for single-player adventure Song of Nunu: A League of Legends Story and 2D platformer Convergence: A League of Legends Story—that’s a lot of League of Legends Stories, but no more RPGs for now, at least.
