Fan Reactions: Final Fantasy XIV Subscriptions Return

So Final Fantasy XIV is definitely coming to PS3 between October and December 2012 and the PC version is to have its subscriptions reinstated in Late October - big news for Final Fantasy fans.

Final Fantasy XIV is finally moving out of the limbo it has existed in for the past year and is now shifting to become something more permanent. We hit up three major population centers of gamers with different tastes - the hardcore XIV fans over at FFXIVCore, the Square Enix fans at Square Enix Members EU and the general core gamers over at NeoGAF - to see what reaction to Square's announcement was like.

  • Pretty exciting stuff you got there, but Version 2.0/Ps3 version is still so far ~ the waiting will kill me! - Perfo, Square Enix Members EU

  • Isn't end of 2012 a little late in the PS3s life for a MMO? Is there a plan to allow FF14 to be used on PS4? - Danlisa1, Square Enix Members EU

  • Going back to a subscription model is a poor idea. You are apparently out of touch with the current MMO market outside Asia. - Poki-3, Square Enix Members EU

  • Oh well I was hoping they would hold off until the Job System but since it is still that very boring classes only rubbish I will cancel my accounts. Not paying for this yet. Sorry you are doing wonders but it is still lacking to pay for. - Abithra, Square Enix Members EU

  • Guild Wars model is the best in my opinion. Arena Net did very well with this system, therefor it works pretty good. - Sasha_JE, Square Enix Members EU

  • I don't mind the subscription. Played since launch and things will only get better. Plus for those that do remain, you'll get to live through the cataclysmic events leading up to 2.0 that won't happen ever again. I'm stoked! - Darte, NeoGAF

  • Not sure how I feel about this. The game stated by them is only 50 percent complete content wise and they're making us pay? Perhaps a few more big patches. Hopefully they reconsider. - desa, NeoGAF

  • Sorry guys, I think I'm out when they're going to charge next month. The game is fun but way to little content to actually pay a monthly fee. - IonicSnake, NeoGAF

  • No matter how good it gets i don't wanna pay 15 bucks per month for a mmorpg again. Probably gonna quit. - Eccocid, NeoGAF

  • I must agree that paying for current content (especially knowing that everything will change in a year or so) could be too much. - Cicco_Drink, NeoGAF

  • Yes sir, son I am excite. - kiryogi, NeoGAF

  • yay guys, don't go play SWTOR, come here pay for FFXIV instead! - miladesn, NeoGAF

  • They have my sword. (money) - Brandonh83, NeoGAF

  • This is pretty insane. Very ambitions plans, and quite an aggressive timeline (v2.0 retail for PC/PS3 in 2013). If they add RDM back in, I'll be there day one :D - Jonnyram, NeoGAF

  • Don't worry guys, this will be FTP again in a year. - echoshifting, NeoGAF

  • I feel there are pros and cons to this. Clearly a major step forward for them getting the game "back on track" and this announcement was something they needed to make. But at the same time, turning subscriptions back on for a whole year before 2.0 hits means that they're basically telling fans that they need donations for a year for what is still an on-going beta. - Part of an even longer post from duckroll, NeoGAF

  • This will be amazing if everything works out for them. The art is absolutely stunning. - Foxix, NeoGAF

  • The fact that Square is outright admitting some faults, like repetitive map design and speed of the game, really gives my confidence a leg up. - Undubbed, NeoGAF

  • I must get a job at Square-Enix. It's seems to be impossible to get fired. - protonion, NeoGAF

  • Oh, FF14 v2? interesting >subscription fees return. and there goes all intrest. im out. - Raonak, NeoGAF

  • Wow those PDFs at the bottom are fucking fantastic. They're really brutal about the issues in v1 on the Outline PDF. FF14 team, I like your honesty. - Dr Fraiser Crane, NeoGAF

  • So...wait until 2013. Gotcha. - CcrooK, NeoGAF

  • Hahah, oh man. What they're going to have left is the mega-hardcore who will PAY to BETATEST the game. At the same time they have the right to say they saw, first hand, how the world changed. So that IS pretty cool. - MazingerZet, FFXIVCore

  • I think once they start charging I will Cancel my account and see it within a year, I feel many will do as this well, this is bad for population of the game. - Kasilyn, FFXIVCore

  • I see this as supporting a project that I'm willing to wait for. Our money will make it possible for future developments to be released. I will be a subscriber. The game has been giving me a lot of enjoyment as of late, it is at its birth still but so far I'm very pleased. - Balfree, FFXIVCore

  • That's all very well, but I now I do wonder how many people will be willing to pay a monthly subscription until then, knowing full well that they could just wait for the real deal and enjoy the game how it was meant to be come 2013. Clearly what we are now playing is a temporary version, so much that even the world and possibly back story will change entirely. - Gigantoad, FFXIVCore

  • It looks like they're totally relaunching the game this time next year. If the game ends up looking as awesome as it does then it'll be worth the time spent playing it in it's bad state. - Ceravic, FFXIVCore
