Square Enix to hold a SaGa Series Official Livestream on May 31
Square Enix will hold a SaGa Series Official Livestream on May 31, announced through the series' official Twitter account. It can be viewed on YouTube starting at 19:00 JST.
While Square Enix states the broadcast will present the latest updates on the SaGa series, specified titles and presenters will only be revealed during the live broadcast.
The SaGa series has seen numerous remasters and re-releases in recent years, including SaGa Frontier Remastered, Collection of SaGa, Romancing SaGa 2, and Romancing SaGa 3. Fans of the series are well aware that there are a handful of classic titles still yet to re-release in the modern era: namely SaGa Frontier 2, Unlimited SaGa, and Romancing SaGa (both the original SFC entry and the PS2 remake).
Series creator and executive producer Akitoshi Kawazu has also teased upcoming announcements in the series numerous times in recent years. Back in April 2021, he first indicated that Square Enix was making a new SaGa game. In my interview with Kawazu and the SaGa team in June 2021, Kawazu told me that he was planning remasters for some of the remaining SaGa games in the franchise catalog. More directly, he tweeted in December 2021 that he is currently working on a remaster, a remake, and a new game in the SaGa series.
It seems likely we should hear of some new project during this event. We'll just have to wait and see.
