Final Fantasy XIV hooks under consideration for Vita, smart phones
Final Fantasy XIV might pop up somewhere other than Windows PCs and PlayStation 3 consoles once it launches in 2012 - as plans are in place to allow players to link into their game accounts on devices like the PlayStation Vita and smart phones.
Speaking to RPG Site in an interview looking at the plans for Version 2.0 of Final Fantasy XIV, Producer & Director Naoki Yoshida explained that the reconstruction of the game's servers would allow such applications to be potentially used after being asked about if there were any plans to make the MMO portable.
"Yes, currently this is all post-2.0, but because we’re doing a reconstruction of our server system, in those plans, we’re going to make sure that the servers can be accessed by outside devices such as smart phones. Not just the Vita, but also smart phones, so that kind of access will be allowed," Yoshida explained.
"What that will open the door to is things like applications that people can used to check their inventory, or check the market and purchase things from the auctions. Those are the things we are laying for in our server foundation, so we can be ready to implement those after 2.0."
All these plans are a long way out - but they form a small part of a larger whole, an intense redesign intended to force the failing MMO back on track. Be sure to check out out full, massive interview with Yoshida through this link.<!-- Article End -->
