Sega has announced that Phantasy Star Online 2 and Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis will be coming to the PlayStation 4 on August 31. They will be playable on the PlayStation 5 using its backwards compatability feature to play PS4 titles. PSO2 initially launched in the west back in 2020 on Xbox platforms and made its way to various PC storefronts shortly after. New Genesis, on the other hand, is the successor to PSO2, but shares the same client as PSO2; it received a global simultaneous release in June 2021.

Both PSO2 and PSO2 New Genesis will be up-to-date with the latest content updates that the western versions have received. This includes the nine years of content updates for PSO2 from its Japanese release and the new 'Frozen Resolution' update for PSO2 New Genesis that included the region of Kvaris and the Waker class.
Players with an existing account on PSO2 and PSO2 New Genesis can transfer their progress over to the PS4 version, continue playing it there, and vice versa. The PS4 version also supports cross-play, so they can play together with players on Xbox platforms and PC.
Just like its prior releases on other systems, PSO2 and PSO2 New Genesis are free to play; there are optional add-on items that players can purchase for their characters.

SEGA today announced Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis, the free-to-play online action RPG game, will be launching on PlayStation 4 on August 31, 2022.
Players will have access to an entire year of updates including the newest update, "Frozen Resolution", which introduces the snowy Kvaris region and a flurry of new enemies, characters, combat and the new "Waker" class.
