Broken Roads no longer being published by Team17, Versus Evil is now its publisher, and it has been delayed to 2023
Broken Roads, the upcoming post-apocalyptic isometric CRPG from developer Drop Bear Bytes, has seen a few new developments at the arrival of its Gamescom 2022 trailer with a new publisher and its release delayed to 2023.
In August 2021, Team17 announced that they were going to be publishing the upcoming title. Now, it has come to light that Team17 has left the project and Versus Evil has taken up the mantle of publishing Broken Roads. Versus Evil is best known for publishing Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire, but they have also recently released titles such as The Hand of Merlin and First Class Trouble.
The new Gamescom 2022 trailer revealed that Broken Roads has been pushed back to 2023 too.
Broken Roads has been releasing several development blogs over the last few months to give people a sneak peek on what Drop Bear Bytes has been doing for it. In June, Mid-Level Concept Artist Cassandra Lee provided a walkthrough on their process for creating the portrait for the character Tilly. Meanwhile in May, the studio provided a breakdown of how they take reference shots from the Australian Outback and implement aspects of its environment into the game itself.
Broken Roads is set to release on consoles and PC now in 2023. Take a look at the official Gamescom 2022 trailer down below with all the new gameplay footage along with some new screenshots.
A love letter to traditional isometric cRPG that brings exploration, strategic turn-based combat and meaningful philosophical choices to a densely-crafted post-apocalyptic future version of Western Australia
Broken Roads skillfully blends traditional and all-new role-playing elements on top of a classless system offering near-unlimited character development options built around four philosophies: Humanist, Utilitarian, Machiavellian, and Nihilist. Furthermore the game presents players with an original morality system: the Moral Compass which sees dialogue options and questing decisions influence, and be influenced by, a character's philosophical leaning and the tough decisions they make along the way.
