Monster Hunter Rise launches for PlayStation and Xbox consoles on January 20, Sunbreak in Spring 2023
Capcom has announced that Monster Hunter Rise will launch for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series consoles on January 20, 2023 for $39.99. Its expansion, Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak, will follow in Spring 2023. In addition to the console release, the game will also be available for Game Pass for PC, console, and cloud at launch. A deluxe edition will also be available for $49.99 with additional layered armor, face paint, and gestures.
Originally launching in March 2021 for Switch, followed by a PC release in January 2022, the latest Monster Hunter title will finally make its way to PlayStation and Xbox consoles nearly two years after its initial release. While Rise's Sunbreak expansion was able to release on both PC and Nintendo Switch concurrently on June 30th, it seems that PlayStation and Xbox fans will have to navigate a staggered release schedule. It is not yet clear how Sunbreak's Title Update cadence will be handled between the existing and new versions of the game -- Monster Hunter World and Iceborne also had to deal with staggered releases of post-launch content, so some of the same particulars may follow through for Rise as well.
Monster Hunter Rise will run at 4k resolution and 60 FPS on both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, along with support for 3D audio on those consoles. Capcom has released a new trailer alongside the announcement as well as a handful of new screenshots.
In his original review for the base game, James called Monster Hunter Rise a great, but not-quite-fantastic entry to the series. Monster Hunter Rise and its Sunbreak expansion is currently available for Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam.
