Nintendo Q3FY2023 Results: Pokemon Scarlet & Violet reach 20.61 million units shipped
Nintendo has released its quarterly financials [PDF] for Q3 of the 2023 fiscal year (April 2022 through December 2022), and we have gotten some sales number updates on some big Nintendo RPGs.
As usual, there's always quite a bit to sift through if you want information on all of Nintendo's catalog, but here at RPG Site, we'll focus on the RPG (or related) sales data.
The hot new RPG release in the quarter is Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet, reaching 20.61 million units shipped worldwide (sold to retailers) as of December 31, 2022. For some context, Pokemon Sword/Shield reached 16.06 million units in its first quarter of sale in 2019, and that duo currently sits at 25.68 million units lifetime.
Nintendo even goes further to detail that the sell-through numbers (that is, sold to consumers) for Scarlet/Violet are at 18.2 million units, as of January 6, 2023. According to Nintendo this is "the fastest start of any title for a Nintendo dedicated video game platform".
Other notable small RPG sales updates include:
- Xenoblade Chronicles 3 has reached 1.81 million units sold since launch. [up from 1.72 million in Q2]
- Pokemon Legends: Arceus has sold 1.99 million units since April 2022, putting it at 14.63 million units lifetime. [up from 13.91 million in Q2]
- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has sold 2.43 million units since April 2022, putting it at 29.00 million units lifetime. [up from 27.79 million in Q2]
- Ring Fit Adventure has sold 1.13 million units since April 2022, putting it at 15.22 million units lifetime.
When next we get results from Nintendo for Q4 of the fiscal year, we should get an idea of how well Fire Emblem Engage faired compared to previous franchise releases.
