See what mapping's like in the Etrian Odyssey Origins Collection
Atlus gave fans a peek at how mapping will work when the Etrian Odyssey Origins Collection launches on Nintendo Switch and PC in June 2023. A tweet from the official Atlus West account debuted a short trailer showing off what the series' signature feature looks like when ported to the single-screen environment of the Switch.

The video shows how the mapping interface for the collection has been adapted to the Nintendo Switch's single screen. The clip is from the Switch edition of Etrian Odyssey 3, and retains the mapping tools from that game. When creating a map manually, players will see the map editing interface on one side of the screen and the game on the other. That way they can fill out the map in real-time, just as players could using the Nintendo DS' bottom touch screen. The map interface supports button controls and the use of numerous icons to denote things like treasure chests. Once placed, a chest icon will also automatically mark as "opened" should a player open the chest on the corresponding grid square. It also appears that the Etrian Odyssey Origins Collection will support touch controls for mapping. Physical Switch editions of the game in Japan also include a stylus, to help players more precisely mark the Switch's touch screen.
Finally, less mapping-obsessed players will be able to use an Automap feature that fills in the map as a player explores the dungeon. Automap settings can be turned on to simply mark floors and walls, but can also be turned to "Full" to map in more detail.
The Etrian Odyssey Origins Collection will go on sale on June 1, 2023.
