The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Ganondorf to be voiced by Matthew Mercer
Shortly after Nintendo debuted the latest trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, voice actor Matthew Mercer revealed that he'll be playing the role of its main antagonist, Ganondorf. He announced the casting via his personal Twitter account.
In the announcement, Mercer mentioned his longtime love of the Legend of Zelda series, as well as for Ganondorf, who has served as the series' main antagonist on multiple occasions. He even showed off pictures of his childhood cosplay as Link, and his dressing as "this green-skinned menace" for There Will Be Brawl, a fan-made web series starring live actors cosplaying as Nintendo characters.
In addition to Mercer's announcement, Nintendo also revealed some art of Ganondorf as he appears in Tears of the Kingdom.
In contrast to his appearance in other Zelda titles, the new incarnation of Ganondorf has traded his armored look for clothing and jewelry worn in the style of the Gerudo. The third trailer depicts Ganon as responsible for the alteration of Link's right arm, which in Tears of the Kingdom has been sheathed in (or replaced by) an ancient prosthetic.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom launches for Nintendo Switch on May 12, 2023. Matthew Mercer has also played roles like Attack on Titan's Levi, Persona 5's Yusuke, Fire Emblem Awakening's Chrom, and The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel's Olivert.
