Time Magazine names From Software President Hidetaka Miyazaki one of 2023's most influential people
TIME Magazine has revealed that Hidetaka Miyazaki, current president of From Software and Director of such games as Elden Ring, Dark Souls, Demon's Souls, Bloodborne and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is part of the publication's list of the 100 Most Influential People of 2023.
Miyazaki is the second game developer to be added to the list, after Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto. Miyamoto was recognized on TIME's 2007 list of Most Influential People.
Miyazaki is included as part of the TIME list's "Innovators" category. Also included in the same category are Walt Disney Co. CEO Bob Iger, football player Kylian Mbappé, comedian Nathan Fielder, and Dr. Dimie Ogoina, who helped raise awareness about the 2022 global Mpox outbreak.
Miyazaki's entry to the list was accompanied by an introduction written by Neil Druckmann, co-president of game developer Naughty Dog and co-creator of the Uncharted and The Last of Us series. Of Miyazaki's games, Druckmann said that they "make the player feel accomplished and smart—and it’s all thanks to his and his team’s uncompromising approach. He refuses to overexplain the mechanics or the lore, but rather puts his trust in the player to figure it out on their own."
