Diablo IV launch trailer catches players up on the Sanctuary status quo
Blizzard has new looks at Diablo IV to whet players' appetites before the game's launch in early June. The developer uploaded the "Story Launch" trailer for Diablo IV to catch interested players up on what's happening in Diablo's world of Sanctuary.
Check it out:
Diablo IV itself is set almost fifty years after the end of Diablo III: Reaper of Souls, during which time much has changed for humanity. Things aren't looking good for Sanctuary, as its mother is coming to visit. Lilith, a demon whose love for the archangel Inarius led to the creation of Sanctuary itself, has returned at the head of an infernal host. Claiming to be there to "empower" the people of Sanctuary in pursuit of a definitive end to the Eternal Conflict between Heaven and Hell, Lilith is sowing chaos throughout the world. The trailer also depicts an encounter between her forces and a group of Knights led by what seems to be Inarius himself, as the feud between the former lovers plays a major part in Diablo IV's plot.
The story launch trailer follows up from last week's "gameplay launch" trailer, which was more focused on showing off in-game footage, cutscenes, and combat gameplay:
Those with a taste for more substantial servings of Diablo lore can also look forward to Blizzard's installments of The Book of Lorath, a series of animated presentations exploring the backstory of the larger Diablo setting, from the beginning of creation to the current invasion of Lilith.
Diablo IV launches on June 6, 2023 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. Buyers of the Ultimate Edition of the game will get to play up to four days earlier.
