CD Projekt Red: The Witcher 3 sold over 50 million, Cyberpunk 2077 DLC showing at SGF 2023
According to the latest financial report from developer CD Projekt Red, sales for The Witcher 3 have officially topped 50 million units. The milestone was mentioned in CDPR's consolidated financial report and announced by the company on Twitter. The report covers the period ending in the first quarter of 2023.
Additionally, the company announced that The Witcher series games overall, including The Witcher, The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, and The Witcher 3, have collectively sold more than 75 million copies. The original The Witcher game launched as a PC exclusive in 2007, while The Witcher 2 launched for PC, Mac, Linux, and Xbox 360 between 2011 and 2014. Given the sales breakdown, it's clear that The Witcher 3 is CD Projekt Red's most popular game by far. Since its launch in 2015 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One (and later Switch, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S), The Witcher 3 accounts for nearly two-thirds of the overall sales volume of the trilogy. The figure also puts The Witcher series in the rankings of the most successful game series ever, competing with Mario Kart 8, Super Mario Bros., and Red Dead Redemption 2, and ahead of Pokemon Red, Green, Blue, and Yellow.
CD Projekt Red also had something to say about its other new game series, Cyberpunk. It announced that Phantom Liberty, the upcoming expansion for Cyberpunk 2077, will appear at the Summer Games Fest 2023 Play Days. Play Days is SGF's name for its physical event space available to in-person attendees. The announcement aligns with CDPR's promise to reveal more info about the expansion in June 2023, as SGF kicks off on June 8th. CD Projekt Red did not mention if Phantom Liberty's presence at Play Days will mean that the expansion is playable on the show floor, though.
