New Fable reboot teaser evokes Jack and the Beanstalk

During the June 2023 Xbox Games Showcase, Microsoft officially unveiled the new Fable game with a trailer.

The new trailer purports to show "in-game footage" and mostly features an interview with "Dave, Vegetable Enthusiast," a man who prefers to speak of "heroes" in the past tense. Saying the "age of heroes" is over, Dave's interview is juxtaposed with a montage of activities from one hero, including fighting bandits and monsters. Dave's later revealed to be a massive giant, with the hero a mere rat-sized creature invading his home. 

Though not officially announced at the time, a new reboot of the franchise was rumored as early as 2018. Microsoft then confirmed that a new Fable game was in development for Xbox Series X|S and Windows 10 at its 2020 Xbox Games Showcase.

The new Fable is being developed by Playground Games, set to release for Xbox Series X|S and PC. The game will also be a day one Game Pass release.
