Genshin Impact 3.8 update launches July 2023 with a summer carnival for Klee
HoYoVerse unveiled more about the next major update to Genshin Impact, version 3.8. Officially titled "Secret Summer Paradise," the update coincides with the launch of Genshin Impact's seasonal summer event. The event will feature the characters Klee, Kaeya, Eula, and Collei in key roles, and kicks off on July 5, 2023. The special preview program also showed off previews of the game's next playable region, Fontaine.
Check out the trailer for Genshin Impact update 3.8 below:
The trailer shows the party encountering another fanciful distraction cooked up by Alice, the mother of Klee. Called the Veluriyam Mirage, the new zone features two open-world game modes designed to engage Alice's precocious daughter. Players can traverse the zone using the roller coaster-like Choo-Choo Cart. They'll also be able to gather up currencies in a two-dimensional world called Preprint mode.
The Veluriyam Mirage will host four summer special events over the duration, like a water cannon shooting game, combat challenges, an aerial race, and a shuffle-board-style minigame.
HoYoVerse will also add more content for character customization, in the form of two cosmetic outfits for Klee and Kaeya. Kaeya's outfit is unlockable through the event and is maritime-themed. Klee's outfit is mage-like, and shows off the Pyro princess in a floppy witch hat.
Here's a preview trailer for Klee and Kaeya's outfits:
For those with Primogems to spare, Genshin Impact's gacha Wish banners will feature Klee and Eula in the first half of the duration. Kokomi and the Wanderer will show up when the banners rotate in the second half.
Finally, the special preview program teased the environs of Fontaine, the next playable region of Teyvat. Players will visit the domain of the Hydro Archon, also known as the "Nation of Justice" sometime in 2023 (possibly for the version 4.0 update). Some of the residents of Fontaine include little furry beings called Melusine. One such Melusine appears to be a police constable of some sort.
Fontaine itself is inspired by steampunk interpretations of Western Europe, particularly France. Fontaine machinery and engineering is known across the world of Teyvat, and Fontaine machines played roles in subplots throughout the main story. The opening of Fontaine will also add underwater exploration gameplay, as evinced by glimpses of swimming and diving gameplay in the teaser.
