The Final Fantasy XVI musical will be produced by the Takarazuka Revue, a famed troupe of stage performers. Few details about the play itself were available in the initial announcement, which is posted on the Takarazuka Revue's website. The musical will be directed by Naoko Koyanagi. who was also involved in other stage productions like Naked City, American Pie, and an adaptation of the martial arts puppet show Thunderbolt Fantasy.
The Takarazuka Revue itself is well-known in Japan. Originally founded in 1914, the theater company was notable for featuring all-female casts, with women performers in both male and female roles. The Takarazuka Revue operates out of two main facilities: The Takarazuka Grand Theater in Hyogo Prefecture, and the Tokyo Takarazuka Theater in Tokyo. The Final Fantasy XVI musical will debut in the latter theater first.
