Dragon Ball Z Kakarot Ground Battle DLC covers the 23rd World Tournament
Bandai Namco is taking Dragon Ball Z Kakarot down to earth in its next wave of DLC. Also known as DLC 5, the next add-on to CyberConnect2's Dragon Ball Z-themed action RPG reaches back to just before the beginning of Dragon Ball Z, to the original Dragon Ball manga's last story arc: The 23rd World Tournament.
Check out a trailer for the Dragon Ball Z Kakarot DLC 5 below:
Also known as the "Piccolo Jr." story arc, the 23rd World Tournament sees Dragon Ball hero Son Goku participate in the World Martial Arts Tournament, taking on "Piccolo Jr.", the reincarnation of Goku's old foe King Piccolo, and the predecessor to the man who would be Dragon Ball Z's Piccolo.
The Dragon Ball Z Kakarot add-on will also debut new mechanics for combat, focused on Ground Battles. Ground Battles will eschew the high-flying fighting of the base game in favor of lower-power duels. Players will need to use differing strategies from the default, aerial-enabled combat to succeed. The DLC also features recreations of key fights from the story arc, including Goku against Jr., Tien Shinhan against Mercenary Tao, and Goku battling Jr.'s giant form.
Dragon Ball Z Kakarot is available on PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. The Ground Battle DLC does not yet have a firm release date. The previous DLC, Bardock: Alone Against Fate, launched in January 2023.
