Bioware announce Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut
EA and Bioware have announced that they'll release a downloadable expansion to the finale of Mass Effect 3 titled Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut.
After a metric ton of complaining from fans, the Extended Cut will add new cinematic sequences and epilogue scenes that will expand on and better explain the controversial events that take place at the end of the game.
The download will be made available for Xbox 360, PC and PlayStation 3 this summer and will be free of charge until April 12th 2014 for everyone who picked up the game new with an Online Pass.
"We are all incredibly proud of Mass Effect 3 and the work done by Casey Hudson and team," Bioware co-founder Dr. Ray Muzyka said today.
"Since launch, we have had time to listen to the feedback from our most passionate fans and we are responding. With the Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut we think we have struck a good balance in delivering the answers players are looking for while maintaining the team's artistic vision for the end of this story arc in the Mass Effect universe," he said
Casey Hudson, Executive Producer of the Mass Effect series and one of the people deemed largely responsible for the ending, elaborated briefly on how the download came about. "We have reprioritized our post-launch development efforts to provide the fans who want more closure with even more context and clarity to the ending of the game, in a way that will feel more personalized for each player."
While the ending lacked closure, we still felt Mass Effect 3 was a damn fine game - as you can read in our review. More detail on what this pack will involve will probably get out tomorrow when Bioware hosts a panel at Penny Arcade Expo in Boston.
