Touhou Spell Carnival releases in Japan on April 18
Compile Heart has announced the Japanese release date for Touhou Spell Carnival. The new game will be available in Japan on April 18, 2024.
The company has also shared new screenshots that reveal more of the game's characters and gameplay systems. Remilia Scarlet, her maid Izayoi Sakuya, and Yakumo Yukari can appear as allies in this game, and they will be voiced in Japanese by Maaya Uchida, Yuuki Kuwahara, and Yoko Hikasa respectively. The new image set also includes a sample of the limited edition's boxart, which will feature the key human characters including Kochiya Sanae—who appears in the screenshots as an enemy boss—and the half-human Konpaku Youmu.
The player will be given a finite stock of Bombs that they can use to clear the map of enemy-launched projectiles. Each character can also initiate Graze instead of normal movements to carefully navigate through the bullets and fill the Graze Gauge. Grazing will be necessary to unleash the characters' signature Spell Card attacks, as they will use specific portions of the gauge.
Touhou Spell Carnival was one of the numerous new game projects that Compile Heart revealed last October. Approximately one month later in November, they revealed that the game will be available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch. The newly announced release date on April 18 falls in line with their previous release window of Spring 2024.
