Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island sold 200,000 units in first two weeks in Japan
Spike Chunsoft announced thatĀ Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island has over 200,000 units sold in Japan, where the game is alternatively known as Shiren the Wanderer 6. This number combines both physical shipments and digital sales, but even though the game was also released simultaneously in East Asia, they only counted sales made in Japan.
The company also noted that this game set a new speed record in reaching this sales milestone. Spike Chunsoft posted the news almost two weeks after the game came out in the East on January 25.
For additional context, when Famitsu published the weekly sales figures from two weeks ago, Shiren the Wanderer 6 was recorded to haveĀ 85,424 physical copies sold within its launch week from January 25 to 28. This number alone still would not beat the first game on Super Famicom (SNES) with 99,678 copies or the second game on Nintendo 64 which still holds the highest first-week physical sales record at 117,982 units.
While we still wouldn't know the following week's physical sales, it is evident that Spike Chunsoft included digital sales from the Nintendo eShop to count towards the sales milestone record and surpass the aforementioned classics.
Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island is currently available on Nintendo Switch in Japan and East Asia. Spike Chunsoft will release the game in North America and Europe on February 27, and digital pre-orders are also available on the respective region's Nintendo eShop.
