Gundam Breaker 4 announced for 2024 release on Switch, PC, PS4, and PS5
Bandai Namco announced a treat for Gundam fans looking for a new game-shaped mobile suit fix at today's Nintendo Direct broadcast: Gundam Breaker 4. After years lying somewhat dormant, the publisher is reviving the Gundam Breaker series with a new title.
The Gundam Breaker series is a line of action RPGs centered around the venerable Mobile Suit Gundam franchise. Unlike other Gundam games, though, which are typically based on one or more of the many Gundam stories and series, Gundam Breaker acknowledges Gundam's real-life existence as a genre of plastic mecha model kits (called "Gunpla"). The gameplay of Gundam Breaker titles revolves around collecting parts from which to assemble the perfect Gunpla and taking it into battle.
From the looks of the announcement trailer, Gundam Breaker 4 looks to continue in that tradition, promising players a large amount of flexibility in choosing parts and showing off battles against massive models, including models of a different scale. Gundam Breaker 4 will also feature a detailed posing and diorama mode, allowing players to take various Gunpla into different scenes and setting them up to take dramatic photos.
It's also notable that Bandai Namco are choosing to call the game Gundam Breaker 4, explicitly drawing a line between the new game and 2016's Gundam Breaker 3, which never saw an official release in the west (though an English-localized edition launched in Asia). The last Gundam Breaker title to make it westward was 2018's New Gundam Breaker. Promoted as an attempt to refresh the series' core mechanics, New Gundam Breaker was poorly received. In his review of the game, Josh Torres called New Gundam Breaker "a tremendous disappointment on many levels."
Gundam Breaker 4 will launch on PS4, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch in 2024.
Bandai Namco Europe S.A.S. today released a trailer announcing Gundam Breaker 4, the next entry in the hack and slash looter franchise allowing players to customise their Gunpla and fight waves of enemies and bosses. Developed by CRAFTS & MEISTER Co., Ltd, the game will launch in 2024 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and PC via Steam.
Gundam Breaker 4 will have players fighting their enemies solo or with up to three friends in co-op multiplayer. In addition, the game goes back to the roots of the franchise letting players create the Gunpla of their dreams with a large collection of mobile suits and parts, as well as a new diorama mode.
Mobile Suit Gundam is a franchise that celebrates its 45th anniversary this year and was created by Sunrise Inc. The first animation series of the franchise, Mobile Suit Gundam was first broadcasted in Japan in 1979. Known for its giant mechas called “Mobile Suit” as well as its sci-fi military stories, the franchise grew in popularity throughout the years and counts now more than 50 TV series, films and OVA, along with plenty of merchandise; the most known being Gunpla, plastic model kits with whom people can recreate small versions of their favorite mobile suits.
Gundam Breaker 4 is set to release in 2024 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation5, PlayStation4 and PC via Steam.
