Destiny 2: The Final Shape launch trailer shows the Witness reshaping reality
Bungie has debuted the launch trailer for Destiny 2 expansion The Final Shape, which launches on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S on June 4, 2024. The trailer previews story developments set to take place in the expansion, which will see an end to the years-long "Saga of Light and Darkness" that's shaped the Destiny narrative since the original game's launch in 2014.
The trailer consists entirely of cinematics from The Final Shape's story campaign. In it, it's revealed that The Witness, the cosmic villain that's been behind most of the Destiny universe's problems, is on the verge of completing their plan to bend all things into their "final shape" - death. To stop them, the forces of the Last City enter the Traveler, the massive orb that grants Guardians their powers. The Witness entered the Traveler at the end of Destiny 2: Lightfall's campaign, and players and characters have spent the last 15 months preparing to pursue them into the Pale Heart, the strange realm within. Currently, they're combing through the last week of the free Into the Light update for new weapons and gear.
Heavily present in the trailer are the key members of the Vanguard, like Ikora Rey, Commander Zavala, and Cayde-6, who died in the Forsaken expansion but is apparently alive within the Pale Heart. The trailer (and The Final Shape proper) sees the debut of actor Keith David as the voice of Zavala. David stepped into the role after the death of Lance Reddick, who voiced Zavala from Destiny's launch until his death in 2023. Cayde-6 is also shown fighting alongside Crow, the Guardian identity of Uldren Sov, who killed him in Forsaken.
