Compile Heart will release a new Sorcery Saga entry for PS5, PS4, and Switch on November 28 in Japan
Compile Heart revealed that they will release a new Sorcery Saga game for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch in Japan on November 28. The new game will be known in Japan as Madou Monogatari: Fia to Fushigi na Gakkou. Our approximate translation for this title would be "Sorcery Saga: Fia and the Mysterious School".
The player will assume the role of Fia, a young girl aspiring to become a great mage as she enrolls in the same ancient sorcery school her grandmother used to attend long ago. The new trailer shows most of the game's features in both school activities and dungeon explorations. Fia will be able to interact with her teachers and schoolmates while participating in festivals/competitions and cultivating harvestable plants. Interactions with the teachers will especially have long-lasting effects, as activities that would be insignificant in other RPGs like breaking vases can actually end up leaving a bad impression.
Just like other roguelike games, the dungeon Fia will frequently visit has a different map and gimmick structure every time she enters it. However, the game will proceed in real-time action instead of being turn-based. Fia can collect Elemental Orbs and cast different Great Spells depending on the available orb types. After returning from the dungeon, she can spend money and LP points to learn new skills and improve her overall abilities.
Compile Heart has also published a list of key staff members who are working on this new game. The company's very own Hikaru Yasui acts as the producer and director, but he employs help from Kazunari Yonemitsu and Kenji Oda—who worked on the series' inaugural entry—as advisors. The main composer is k.h.d.n. and the primary character designer is Sunaho Tobe. Katsumi Enami, Shinichiro Ohtsuka, and Ichi are also contributing as sub character designers.
Compile Heart is pulling all the stops to make sure this new game stays true to the series roots, as they have even secured approval from Sega to have the Puyos appear here. As a refresher, the Puyo Puyo puzzle game series originated as a spinoff to Sorcery Saga, but the former ended up getting more active with new games still being released to this day.
You can find the new trailer and screenshots for Madou Monogatari: Fia to Fushigi na Gakkou right below. As this reveal is still fresh even in Japan, Compile Heart has yet to confirm its English localization. If it does get a localization, it would be the second-ever title after Sorcery Saga: Curse of the Great Curry God, which came out on PlayStation Vita and PC. The latter version is still available for purchase on Steam.
