New trailer for Visions of Mana introduces Elemental Vessels
We are just a few short weeks away from the first brand-new entry in Square Enix's Mana series with Visions of Mana. Today, via the PlayStation YouTube channel, Square released a brand new 5-minute-long video that highlights the Elemental Vessels system, which is new in Visions.
Elements are nothing new with the Mana series, with most entries of this much-beloved series having them serve as important plot devices, but Visions of Mana looks to be upping their importance even more with Elemental Vessels. These eight special items, each tied to a specific element you will discover during your playthrough, will unlock new classes for your party members and provide traversal options to help you get around. In the trailer, three of these are shown off, including Gnome Shovel as the Vessel of Earth, Lumina Lantern as the Vessel of Light, and the Shade Sight as the Vessel of Darkness. These are the same three Vessels introduced in a recent post on Square Enix's blog
The Vessel of Earth - the Gnome Shovel - focuses on improving your physical defense by dropping a stone shield during battle that will reduce incoming damage to party members inside. Send boulders hurtling from the sky down on your enemies for its special attack. On the open field, it lets you operate the giant clay golems you come across.
The Gnome Shovel unlocks the following classes:
- Weapon Master for Val
- Magus for Palamena
- Ninja Master for Morley
- Hunter for Julei
- Warrior Monk for Careena
The Vessel of Light—the Lumina Lantern—can tether various enemies together, sharing the damage that one takes with the other. Alternatively, using its special area attack, the damage will be shared across all enemies. While exploring out in the field, it can create bridges of light.
The Lumina Lantern unlocks the following classes:
- Paladin for Val
- Archmage for Palamena
- Sovereign for Moreley
- High Cleric for Julei
- Starlancer for Careena
The Vessel of Darkness —the Shade Sight—will pull lighter enemies to you during combat or, if the enemy is larger, pull you towards them. You can also shoot off a large blackhole as the vessel's special attack, pulling all enemies into it and dealing damage over time. As for traversal options, this vessel allows you to pull yourself to certain distant objects or interact with them.
The Shade Sight unlocks the following classes:
- Berserker for Val
- Reaper for Palamena
- Soothsayer for Moreley
- Necromancer for Juleei
- Maverick for Careena
Visions of Mana and its Elemental Vessels are coming to PlayStation 4 and 5 on August 29, 2024, as well as Xbox Series X|S and PC.
