Nintendo Q1FY2025 Results: Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door sells 1.76 million units

Nintendo has released its quarterly financials [PDF] for Q1 of the 2025 fiscal year, giving us some incremental sales updates for Nintendo RPGs.

For the genre-focus of this website, the main topic is the Switch release of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, which shipped 1.76 million units in the quarter (as of June 30) . Nintendo further details that the re-release sold-through 1.3 million units to consumers in the game's first six weeks of sale. Although it's not in our general coverage, Nintendo's other big release of the quarter was Luigi's Mansion 2 HD, which sold 1.19 million units in the quarter.

As a point of comparison, the re-release of Super Mario RPG sold 3.14 million units in its first quarter of sales last year.

Other incremental RPG-related sales updates are as follows:

  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has sold 32.05 million units since launch [up from 31.85 last quarter]
  • The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has sold 20.80 million units since launch [up from 20.61 last quarter]
  • Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield have sold 26.35 million units since launch [up from 26.27 last quarter]
  • Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet have sold 25.29 million units since launch [up from 24.92 last quarter]

As far as upcoming RPG-related releases go, at the end of Q2 we'll see the release of The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, and in Q3 we'll have Mario & Luigi: Brothership.
