Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 2 and 3 appear digitally in Japan on PlayStation 4
Idea Factory and Compile Heart announced that they have released Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 2: Sisters Generation and Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 3: V Generation for the PlayStation 4 digitally in Japan. These releases also mean that the whole Re;Birth remake trilogy is now available on the PS4, albeit still only in Japan.
For the record, both titles originally appeared on the PS3. The second entry originally appeared as Hyperdimension Neptunia mk2—released in Japan in 2011 and the West in 2012—while the third game first appeared as Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory in Japan in 2012 and the West in 2013. Compile Heart later remade these games into Re;Birth 2 and 3 respectively, which appeared first for PlayStation Vita in Japan in 2014.
It thus took 12/13 years since the original PS3 releases and 10 years since the first remake releases on the PSV for both games to be playable natively on the PS4 (and the PS5 via backwards compatibility), since the newer PlayStation consoles do not support backwards compatibility for PS3 games. However, the PS4 versions are still only available in Japanese as of these releases.
Although the new Japanese press release did not make any mention of this, the whole Neptunia Re;Birth trilogy is also available on PC via Steam. The PC versions are also the the only ones with English subtitle support to date. Idea Factory International originally planned to release the Switch versions of the Re;Birth trilogy in the West last May around almost the same time as Japan. But while the Japanese Switch ports did get released on time, the company postponed the Western releases and they have still yet to confirm the new release dates even after releasing the Japanese PS4 ports today.
